Spartacus: Blood and Sand

Is anyone else watching this on the Starz network? It is a BLATANT "300" knock off with way more speed ramping. but I actually enjoy it. Some of the overstylized blood splatter and over the top kills don't bother me. and the acting is pretty damn good. It's not amazing but it is entertaining.

I have never seen so much blood, sex, boobies and full-frontal nudity (male:thumbdown and female:thumbup:) in the course of one hour in all my days of watching movies.

If you have starz check it out. I watch it ONDemand faithfully.

Yeah it's like a car wreck, I just can't look away. So many things bothered me about it but the most was the slow motion, they slowed every single action down, even some one drinking water, they slowed that down for dramatic effect lol... but like I said, it's so bad that it's good...LOL

Grade A trash, but yes...I couldn't stop watching. Zack Snyder should sue for style theft.

Decided to check it out online. By the first five minutes I started skipping through the show to see if there was anything better.

I gotta say, this is some of the laziest writing I've ever seen. Nothing is original, nothing is unique, nothing works. Some scenes have the f word thrown in every two seconds, some scenes have lines and shots taken directly from Gladiator or 300:

"Hold the line!" is a power line from Gladiator. Then throwing a sword as it spins slo mo towards the camera... hmm... never seen that before.

To fill the void of no story they have gallons of fake unrealistic over the top blood that defies any physics, pointless nudity that anyone can get online... and as if they needed to fill more of a void someone said 'hey let's slo mo half the show, that'll eat up time!'

I mean what 300 had going for it was it was beautiful, and it each 'slo-mo' moment was like a beautiful frame in a graphic novel. This show is trying but it just can't capture that feeling or look. And I'm sorry but when you pull our a knife and blood rushes towards the camera... no...

I doubt I'll watch the next one... but maybe...

LOL!!!! Hell yeah, I vowed not to watch the next episode after seeing the last one which was episode 3.... but for some reason I think I will be back!!! I must say, it's getting worst each episode as if that could happen, let's just hope it atleast gets a little better.

Did anyone see the last Episode!!! Even though I survived the cheesyness of the previous two episodes, this last one might of been the final straw... I mean they actually showed scenes of the actors's face fighting inside their mask... they actually pretended like the camera was mounted inside of the mask...LOL I mean seriosly, it's hard to explain you just have to see it.... this Director needs to get shot! but yet we're still watching...LOL

I just realize this has had several directors, I guess they bring in a director for each episode. Didn't think this was common for a T.V show, but the last episode was really good. It goes to show how much a good director can make a difference. Hope it keeps getting better and hope this guy who directed the last episode comes back to direct more episodes.

This was the first episode that I actually felt emotion for the Characters.... big improvement.

Man...I'm actually starting to like this show...retarded face mask mounted shots and all. I have to give it this, it looks PHENOMENAL in my home theater. Very clean image. Must be shot digitally because there isn't a film artifact in sight. I think that helps the satellite compression as it just looks better than almost anything on my tivo.

Dammit! I was snowboarding all weekend and forgot to watch it. And I have to agree the In-Helmet cam was just silly.
I knew he would get his ass kicked though. "spartacus" aint ready for dude, I really do hate that other guy though, I can't wait until he gets killed.

I'm watching on Comcast HD and every time there is a CU and the actors move I get this odd motion blur. But only on CU's. It's like my Plasma does not refresh fast enough or something (I don't even know if they do refresh) . it really bothers me but It's not the show, it's either the signal or the TV. I can't even watch speed racer on that TV, It completely freaks out, Not that I would ever want to watch it again anyway. but it only does that for that movie.

According to a few articles I just read the show is shot on RED and the Phantom.

You mean, Crixus, yeah at first I hated his guts. I loved the fact that in episode 3

SPOILER ALERT!!!!

he beats Spartacus, that was a nice set-up because I honestly thought Spartacus was gonna beat him. He is a bad mofo, but as the show goes on, I don't hate him as much, don't know if that's the intention of the writers or what...

Which other guy do you hate... the guy with the dreads right, Crixus sidekick? If so I hate his guts too...lol, can't wait for this week's episode.

***SPOILERS***

P, Tell me you watched the "Shadow Of Death" ep 105. That was the best one yet IMHO. My wife was clapping at that final Decap scene. Very intense.

I did hate Crixus, now I don't for some reason. I think once he opened up a little bit to Spartacus and his dynamic with the women there made me really start to feel sorry for him rather than hate him. Now I hope he lives after what happened to him in the arena.

The gay dread guy does not really bother me too much, and I say gay in the truest sense ot the word. If you did not watch the episode you are in for a shock. I mean a big one.

One thing I did not know is that Lacretia was Lucy Lawless. I saw the credits and thought, wait a gotdamn minute.

My wife and I are totally hooked on this show now. I think we have gotten used to everything that is wrong with it and just enjoy it for what it is.
