Sound synch is way off

I've had my XH-A1 and edited on FCE4 for three years now without having this problem: the sound synch is sometimes off by 2 or 3 seconds on some clips of 24F footage I have captured for editing. Yet some of the clips are exactly right on as always.

I've been troubleshooting this for two days. The odd thing is, I've tested it on two different Mac computers set up with the same FCE4 version. And I'm still getting these seemingly random clips of unsynchronized sound.

So it seems it should be some setting in my camera -- I've made sure the system setting is at 24F when I capture the footage onto FCE4. Can there be some other setting I'm missing?

It baffles me that I haven't come across this before in my three years of work with this equipment!

Any help or suggestions appreciated!
 
Try a camera reset .. but before you do, note all your custom presets and the custom functions you've installed, so you can redo them. HTH

Haven't tried the reset because I may have been wrong about the camera suddenly not synching on one of the Macs. But I still have the problem on the new iMac. At another forum a FCE guy told me FCE does not support 24F. Well, it did for the most part on my PowerMac G5. But maybe on the Intel iMac it has trouble with the sound?

Well, it may be time to get Final Cut Studio 7.
