Shot some footage on my Iphone that I'm editing in FCP. Everything looks good except when I play
the clips I can't hear the audio just beeping.... if I scroll in reverse the sound is there and has the correct levels. Any idea how to eliminate the beeping to restore the sound?

Sorry.... found it.

That's unrendered audio and will happen again every time you edit again until you do what David S. says. Trust us- we're not making this stuff up.

What does "pro res LT with 48/16 audio" do?

Converting the camera's video files to ProRes LT means that the footage will be in an edit-friendly format that FCP won't struggle to handle. As it is, it sounds like you're trying to work with the iPhone's native h.264 files, which FCP does not like. And audio for FCP has to be uncompressed 48-bit/16kHz in order to work without having to render (converting to ProRes will do this).

You have Compressor if you have Final Cut. It can be used to convert the files.

Where do I change this setting?

You don't a change a setting. You use the conversion capabilities in Compressor to transcode the h.264 iPhone footage to pro res.
