This is gonna be the holy grail of super small 2-channel solutions for those of us that can't fork piles of cash for full professional sound kits, but want quality and would have more than enough with 2 channels for a lot of stuff we want to do, like BTS, docu, etc, etc, etc!

I am sofa king exited about this little guy! I owned a MixPre and the only two real concerns I had with it were the less-than-generous level meters, and the inability to use it on my desktop.

Sound Devices ROCKS! Thank you!

now someone needs to help me figure out how to get power to it from AC.

There has to be some sort of transformer type solution, right?

For a do it urselfer..
Find out how many amps it draws, see what the voltage range is for the 12v input is. Get a supply that meets those requirements.
Snip the end off and put a 4 pin hirose on it.

Or just buy the sound devices version

I gotta say I'm impressed with this lil thing.
I probably wont pick one up since I have a 302 but
I like the fact that they improved the metering.

Great for guys that need something rigged under their camera
or for extreme documentaries where you're sending a wireless signal to camera
and keeping the entire weight down next to nothing.

Just get an iPhone or iPod power supply and a USB to mini USB cable...it should be able to get power through the USB port.

Doesn't this get its power from USB? If connected to computer from the computer. If not a lot of cell phones, cameras etc now come with cheap mains adapters into which one plugs a standard USB cable, suspect those would work

As a long-term owner of the original MixPre and could never figure out how to mount this underneath a DSLR, I'm interested in the XL-CAM accessory mount. It depends on how much the MixPre-D and mount cost. Presumably the prices will be announced at NAB. As my MixPre is old and battered, I'm willing to drill holes in it. But I will buy a MP-D if it's affordable.

Sounds worth it. $80 to know you are feeding it clean and adequate power... I think I'll do it.

This is the mixer I always dreamed of. Something I can justify, and something that gives me zero compromise on quality.
I might still dream of owning a 788T, but this gives me plenty of options for what I will use it for!

Bravo Sound Devices... Bravo...

Oh, and btw, making the headphone volume knob smaller is a great little change! It was tight in there, and if you tried to make an adjustment without looking down you could have changed the gain instead of the volume. Small but very nice tweak!

You realize that's a FireWire filter for interfacing their 7-series recorders to external drives, right?

What you want is the XL-WPH3 power adapter for all SD mixers and recorders. $78.

Now this is really interesting. The meter and lack of mounting hassles have always been a bug to me. I really want to mount this between the tripod and camera instead of clamping it to a tripod leg or hanging it in a bag. The website does not show what is on the bottom surface of the housing but the video clearly shows it attached to a tripod head. So it looks like we are on to something good here. Nice find USLatin.

We'll have one in our booth at K-Tek at NAB. I'm going to figure out how to get it to fit in with Norbert DSLR frame and a 7D that we'll have in our booth (we make Norbert www.norbertusa.com). I'm really interested to check this out. I might take it back to the hotel room with me at night to fiddle around with it on my macbook.

In my Coffey Sound days, I sold a TON of mix pre's. I would expect Sound Devices to sell a ton of these units. I hope they have enough ready to ship!

Too bad they didn't include a s/pdif out. That way I wouldn't have to buy a USBPre2 to send mics to my channels 7/8 on my Tascam DR-680.

I mentioned this on another thread but This is VERY nice. If I could get 50% off for trading in my original MixPre I would do it. It's still on my buy list.

Well, there are some of us who are in the market for the original, and I'm sure you could sell it for more than half the cost of the new version.

Just curious -- why does Tascam support S/Pdif? AES3 came out sometime in the 1980s didn't it? I thought AES3 was supposed to supercede S/Pdif. It's been like 25 or 30 years -- so isn't S/Pdif obsolete?

IDK, I must be lost. Again. Sigh...
