Soul Searcher

[Simon Wyndham]

Okay its a bit of a plug. My friend, Neil Oseman's movie Soul Searcher is about to be released onto DVD. This was shot entirely on a Canon XL1S and yours trulys old XM1 on a Glidecam2000. The ultimate indie movie! A full *real* 60 piece orchestra with specially composed music that performed for the paltry price of 1000ukp for the day!

Oh, I also did the fight choreography. Give it a butchers as they say in London!

What was the budget on this beast? It looks... well... awesome. Damn good lighting and cinmetography, too. Some shots look just like film whereas I can't tell the difference. On the other hand, some look pretty digital. You sure it was XL1s and not XL2?

[Simon Wyndham]

It was an XL1s combined with my old XM1.

It didn't have a set budget, but Neil reckons it cost him 25k UKP all told. He begged and scraped for it.

Naturally as an indie movie of this type there are some dodgy bits. But overall it does look awesome and very cinematic. The orchestrated music helped it a lot. I'm looking forward to seeing rhe final DVD. The version I saw when it was premiered was very good indeed. But now that he's had more time Neil has remixed the soundtrack into full 5.1 Dolby Digital and performed one or two other tweaks. He has also made a feature length documentary about the making of the movie. I just hope my interview doesn't come out as bad as it felt like at the time I was doing it! I'm not an 'in front of the camera' type of person!

Simon, the images were awsome! I should be so lucky (read: good) to get them out of my XL2. Congratulations.

I'm impressed with that. I loved the style of stop motion you guys did, it was very evil dead. I think I'll actually get the DVD.

Dunno if yo guys have seen but the trailer for the making of docu "Going To Hell" is now up as well. I dread to think what they shot without me knowing!!

There's a lot of different featurettes on the DVD that should be of interest to anyone else wanting to make an indy movie. Plus hopefully it will give everyone a reason why they stayed out shooting at 3 in the morning and freezing rain for 2 months.
