Sorry to be dense...

I'll soon be upgrading from a DVX100 to a HVX200. If someone would take the time to answer these questions, I'd really appreciate it. I've browsed the forum but somehow still feel unclear on these issues.

1. Is there only one mode for shooting hi-def 24p?

2. Does this mode really take up 1gb per minute on memory cards? If so, is there any way I can shoot 2 hours a day? (Will I have to drag my terra drive around?)

3. How can I transfer footage directly to a Mac without the camera? What hardware will I need?

Thanks so much!

Sam

1. The HVX records so many formats that I can't count them, at least on all my fingers and toes. 24p in 1080 and 720 AND regular SD (in 3 different formats) plus variableframerates in 720, and a good choice in 1080 (I and P) and in SD, in 3 flavors..
Read the specs sheet at www.panasonic.com for the details.

2. Memory used depends on what mode you are shooting in. THere are many optionas dicussed on teh baord.

3. you will need a P2 drive to get footage formt eh cards to a MAC. That means the camera, an extranl P2 drive, a PC-card drive for yrou mac - or a mac with a PC slot. if you use a recording system other than P2 there amny many options there, a Cineporter uses USB2, Firewtore uses Firewire, etc etc..

All these topics are in deed discussed in depth on the forum, use the search feature at the top to find out more!

Thanks, Mikko. I'm almost embaressed to respond, it will show how dense I really am...

So HD doesn't necessarily mean 1080i, it can mean 720 and "regular SD," eh? Anything more you can tell me about that?

Any idea whether my G5 has a PC slot somewhere on it?

It does take 1gig per minute, unless you select 24PN, you can record 2.5 minutes per gig, because it only record the 24 frame, compare to the other normal mode, it record 60 frames.

Also if your Mac is a laptop, you probably have a PCMCIA slot on it. You can connect the camera to the PC and download the file from there also.

The P2 Drive is very expensive in my view... So I would ratter find other solutions than P2 Drive unless cash is not a problem.
