Proposing to my girlfriend this weekend and just bought a very nice ring. I'm going on a cruise to the Bahamas and wanted to do it on the ship. Now I'm not sure if I'm just being paranoid, but do you think that customs for some reason will want to check my bag and make me empty it ... Am I being paranoid or ?

Well congrats on taking this step.

As for customs... not too sure. The few time's I've traveled I've never had to open my bag, except for electronics (show us it works!).

I would imagine that cruises get this kind of thing fairly often. Give them a call and ask them, or maybe even your travel agent if you have one?

Yeah, call ahead. But I really doubt that a single ring will raise eyebrows going out of the country (unless it's the Hope Diamond). Coming in might be a different story, but by then she will have it on her finger.

I would definitely carry the receipt with you though.

Congrats. I just celebrated 15 years, and I love it.

Swallow the ring pre-customs, and retrieve it post-customs.

I can tell you don't do this kind of thing very often.

Congratulations.

Thank you guys ! No swallowing, smuggling, etc.. I had no problems with it, just kept it at the bottom of my laptop bag. As it went thru the xray, the guy stop and looked right at me. I felt a bit of heat as she looked at me like what is going on. The security guard then looked at me and gave me the thumbs up. lol She asked me what that was about and I told her he must have been a mac fan... Safe

Royal Caribbean was excellent and ate like a king. The only thing that was very disappointing was the island of Nassau. I think if Royal Caribbean provided a transportation bus/boat instead of feeding us to the wolves, this would really bump things up a bit. For some reason the people seemed like they didn't want us there on their island and felt a bit discriminating. The Atlantis hotel another disappointing part of our trip, very very rude people. I actually had one guy try to take my D90 off of my neck and tell me he wanted to give me $5 for it. Anyway it was a great trip and had tons of fun, except for the island of Nassau.

BTW killed the blackjack table too. :violent5:

Yeah, how'd you propose? She did say yes, didn't she? (sorry, no subtle way of asking that).

From the few hours I was there, I would have to agree, that place sucks. $15 dollar pina coladas...pass.

And I believe Jim and tmnt and Luis asked a question?

And congrats to Arges for his 1000th post.

"Ummm, glad to hear the food was good, but how did the whole proposal part go?"

Yea I guess I forgot this part..

It went very good and the answer was yes. Proposed on the 11 deck off the back of the boat, so the mood was just right (lots of stars, big bright moon, breezy, perfect). Didn't go Titanic style, but it was definitely an emotional moment. The hardest part was to pick where to setup camp, I did what felt right...

Congratulations! You and your fiance' must be super excited. Now, you realize, you've given her your day planner? This is where you will see real time management spring into action. She's probably already got a date, wedding colors and a venue. :D

I've been to Atlantis. The resort itself is absolutely mind-blowing. It's incredible. I mean, my brother and I had stingrays in our pool outside our room. Early one morning, we got up and walked around and was offered a nice game of croquet on the green by one of the staff members. The marine life and underwater aquarium is breathtaking. The lazy river ride was continual, serene, relaxing and beautiful. The Casino was huge. The ammenties, in a word, are spectacular.

Having said that, I would never, EVER, EEEEEVVVEER go there again unless I came into a King's Ransom. I had a headache and went to the giftshop and bought a packet of 2 pills...$14 dollars. A Miami Herald, a paper that normally would cost $.50 cents...$7.00 dollars. Our cheapest meal that week (besides being fed for free a couple of times by his company) was a hamburger for $14 dollars. That was just the hamburger. We added fries and one single beer. Before tip, $25 dollars. I mean, HEY ZEUS CHRISTMAS SAKES ALIVE are you FREAKING KIDDING ME!?!?!?!? You cannot have fun at a place when you are constantly being gouged. I mean, you need to take a second mortgage out on your house to enjoy the week. And, if you don't have a home, sell stuff before you go. I mean, WOW. That place is expensive. And, unless you go off Paradise Island, you are held hostage by their ridiculous prices.

You could easily spend $1,000 dollars that week doing virtually nothing but walking around in your underwear.

Wow you've been down this road huh... Not even 4 days later we're at my mothers house and walking out of the bathroom and I hear look at this dress hahah, what kind of food are we going with hahah, where do you think we can have the wedding hahah ooo awww. Not that anything is wrong with that, but wow never have seen her move so fast.

Rick I totally agree with you on the food, activities, etc.. However if you gamble they comp, this is something most people don't know and they don't really tell you that. We probably gambled $1000 or more and our suite was comp for 1 day. Alot of it has to do with importing ingredients etc.. My fathers friend was the executive chef there for 3 years back I think in 2003 and had lots of problems with people complaining about food cost. You can't beat the cruise ship, we paid $125 each for a 3 day cruise. This is cheaper than getting a hotel room, but everything is included except drinks. The food alone is worth 4 times that.

Thank you guys for the advice, back to making money...
