Sony Vegas Pro 10

@ PerroneFord

what exact avid system are you talking about? I'm looking at possibly having to jump ship on Vegas due to maxing out too. I have a Mac Pro 2,1 3.0 Ghz Quad Core with 32 GB RAM and like you say, its OK till you start stacking tracks. I have some serious multi-cam stuff to edit and the idea of 30 minute timelines is not something I would look forward too.

if you got the mac pro, you should be cutting on final cut or premiere!!

looked at the pre-release overview and i do think that Sony Vegas has finally emerged to be the best NLE editor out there. 3D editing and the ferocity at which sony quickly responds to technology will no doubt put it in the firm grip within a few versions. i think Vegas has put FCP and Adobe Premiere to shame.
All Sony now need is to give as support for all the 3rd party plugins supported on the FCP and Adobe premiere and sony Vegas will be a complete house. hope this forum has Sony engineers that forage the site........

Vegas again seems to be leading in technological advancement.....

How has Vegas put Premiere to shame? Please Explain. Are you aware that the Production Premium has a script writing program that makes use of Script Syncing? Premiere can import and export FCP and Avid projects. The Mercury Playback Engine when used with the Nvidia graphics cards offers almost umlimited realtime. Premiere can play the native Panasonic P2 Codec. Premiere integrates well with PhotoShop, Illustrator, AE, Encore and Soundbooth.

Are you sure Vegas puts Premiere Pro CS5 to shame?

I was about to buy a new CS5 system till a salesman at AVS (who you would think has incentive to sell) told me "if you are maxing out in Vegas you will max out more in CS5, even with merc....go figure.

this was of course in reference to the aforementioned maxed out demands

OK, we don't need a THIS NLE vs. THAT NLE thread here. Move along home, folks.

really? I think vegas users should really be exposed to all the information users of other NLE's are sharing... as technology, software included, is progressing maybe should the workflow of an editor as well? Maybe someone has been lost, torturing themselves using something that wasn't right for the kind of work they attend of producing, etc... i think such threads are very helpful, informal, and best of all open! as in every side could be heard and a person can make their decisions based on them...

And all that info is to be found in the other NLE forums. There is no NLE vs. NLE argument which has not already been hashed out countless times around here. We don't need another one. Thanks.

Jimerson what exactly are you looking for vegas to do with ptools?

Export something Pro Tools can actually read. Unreasonable, I know; crazy expectations like basic functionality and all.

For that matter, export an EDL that, well, ANYTHING else can read.

This isn't appropriate to the conversation at hand, so I'll PM you.

A year or so ago I moved from Final Cut Studio 2 to Vegas - the only reason being that I was moving into HD and couldn't afford to buy a Mac grunty enough to handle it, I work in IT so could build a PC for a fraction of the cost. I was also moving jobs so would have had to buy my own Final Cut Suite as work provided one, Vegas Pro ticked all the price boxes, I had heard good things about it, had a play with a demo, but basically bought it because it was the only pro NLE I could afford.

I've had Vegas pro crash on my a couple of times, but each case was with a project that I was trying to work with mixed media, and playing around with my own Proxy Script, in each case if I copied the contents from the project into a new project I would be error free. Vegas also has pretty good crash recovery.

Final cut on the other hand crashed frequently and crashed often, and always chose times when the pressure was really on. In the heat of the moment Vegas so far has been flawless.

The only thing I would like is better preview speed ala cs5, but stability is fine. There are obviously other things coming into play with peoples issues.

Sony Vegas 10.0a is now available here. DVFilm has also released Raylight Ultra 1.2.3 with an installer for Vegas 10.0 here.

I have been a loyal Vegas user since the first version was released under Sonic Foundry. I have slowly lost faith in the software since version 8. It has lost it's solid stability. I can only hope v10 reverses that trend. I know many of you feel the same.

Cheers!

I have Sony Vegas Pro 8, wondering what benefit I would get by upgrading / buying Sony Vegas Pro 10? I am just doing shorts for now, a couple a year. I am see 10 is able to create Blu Ray discs with menus, but do I really need that for shorts? I would like to get 10, but for $400 academic pricing even that is steep. Are there some major benefits for getting 10? Currently running 64bit Vegas Pro 8 on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit OS, 16GB RAM, hexacore AMD cpu.

If I'm reading this right, you should be able to upgrade for $139.00!
I would do that...just because.

I've been using Vegas Pro 9 and editing AVCHD native with no problems what-so-ever.
(Windows 7 Pro, i7 950, 12GB RAM)

My main complaint/issues with Vegas Pro 8 are that I have major problems rendering to various formats, seems to be hit or miss with .mov and mpeg, although wmv rendering is not a problem. And the version c upgrade of 8.0c was horribly unstable, I had to downgrade to 8.0a to regain stability, but now I am using 8.1 64bit and it seems to work smooth except of course for the codec rending issues that continue. I would upgrade to 10 if it turns out to be stable AND have fluid seamless rendering to common codecs and containers, so tired of getting errors trying to render to mpeg4, mov, etc. Inexcusable for such a high priced video editor. For the kind of money you pay for it should just fricken work. I would like to stick with Vegas Pro because of the learning curve, I do not want to re-learn as the config settings and such of another editor like AVID or Adobe.
