Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD (10)

I'm shopping around for some intermediate NLE software and just noticed that Sony has announced the latest version of Vegas Movie Studio. It's not out until June 30 however.

It seems to include some new features that were previously only available in Vegas Pro (e.g., device explorer, white balance tool and 10 video and audio tracks).

I've outgrown iMovie on my Mac (don't laugh), so PC 30 day trial, here I come!

Here on an XP Pro PC it seems (like the previous version) heavy on memory usage and slow to do AVCHD renders compared to others. Interface and features are great but the underlying engine seems to still be a problem.

^agreed...since all versions of Vegas bypass(for the most part) the video card for rendering, you need the fastest CPU you can afford. but Movie Studio is quite stable on my Vista system

This sounds still pretty cool to me. I've been using Vegas 9 platinum and have really been missing secondary color control and image stabilization (workflow has been difficult if having to use DeShaker separately). What still seems to be a pro-only feature is the video / audio playback speed using envelopes (the clips can have fixed rate). Those (and more video tracks) are the ones I've been mostly missing, otherwise the software has been enough for my needs. Will have to check the demo out. Is there no upgrade option? :(

re upgrade options

re upgrade options

there certainly are upgrade options (see the Sony site) and as a license holder, I got a email with an even better deal ($39 for upgrade to platinum suite 10). Looking good so far

Yeah, I noticed that while downloading the trial. Felt like an idiot. :cheesy: I haven't received such email, but the default upgrade path isn't too much to ask for, I think. Still testing.
