FS7: Sony rumored to release new FS7

I just wrapped a new series for Outdoor Channel with the FS7. Here are some improvements I'd like to see:

Higher res monitor.
Better Loupe that can flip up and not fall off when looking at the monitor.
An ARRI/F5 style LED screen on the body so i can access ISO, shutter speed, white balance, and fps.
Improved baseplate/shoulder pad
F55 sensor w/ global shutter
Better weather sealing
Cleaner low light performance at 180fps
Improved extension arm for handle
Beefier right hand grip
*Ability to scrub through slow motion playback
Audio enabled during slow motion
False color
Beefier Varicam LT style top-handle
Menu access on EVF a la Amira
Overall menu simplification
Lose the Sony jog-wheel.
Internal ProRes/DnX options.
No line skipping in hfr.
Improved autofocus and face tracking.

Sounds like you just want an F5/55

I was speaking to a Sony rep at CES 2016 on their stand, he told me the FS7 was meant to have the variable ND feature but it was not sufficently developed in time to make that launch date. My hunch is this is coming and it will definitely have the variable ND.

People throw some crazy wishes like 4K 240fps... Come on guys, let's be realistic :) There's no way FS8 (or whatever) will have better specs then R7 recorder.

yep... Of all things (autofocus included lol) the variND is the best bet inside the new body. But a new sensor? Naaa...

Better simple menus? hahah You guys work with sonys for a long time, don't ya? Even the ex1/ex3 had awful menus.

Sony has just changed it's menu a bit as seen in the A99 and A6500. All their new cameras will have this...

It's a weird space to be in for Sony as the Fs7 was such a leap forward for the price. I can't imagine them adding too much aside from simple things like the variND and improved RAW output.

If the sensor changes I'll eat my words but seems like will be a minor update more than anything else.

Assuming all bodies are due for an upgrade there's no reason not to let the new FS7 inherit the F55's sensor while the successor to the F55 gains from the F65.
And yes, AUTOFOCUS. Have you used the C300 MKII on a gimbal? Trust me...

c'mom, Bill. Real cinematographers don't use auto focus.

I used it on the FS700 here an there e.g. on the Ronin. When I got the FS7 1st disappointment was the lack of face recognition. 2nd was a real shock when I realized how bad the AF on the FS7 was. I am quite happy with the FS7 but I admit at the price drop of the C300II I was considering a switch because of the AF tracking feature

Don't they already share the same sensor?

FS7 and F5 share the same sensor, it's rolling shutter.

F55 has it's own sensor with a global shutter, lower light sensitivity.

F65 has it's own sensor with a diagonal bayer pattern. F65 sensor is rolling shutter, but there's a mechanical shutter that makes it effectively a global shutter.

Not too long ago, Sony introduced X-OCN
(eXtended Original Camera Negative)....which
seems to be a new, compressed, raw format.
Just sayin........

The only joke about 4K 240fps is the date. Its coming, to cheap cameras, in a few years. Can barely wait :-)

Unfortunately I have a feeling it will come to very cheap cameras much sooner than it comes to proper cameras. 720p240 and 1080p120 started appearing as common features on many lower-end cameras in recent years, yet the Sony FS-cams (and I think the Ursa Mini?) are still the only sub $10,000 pro cameras which exceed 60fps. When you look at what frame rates are available on everything from a GoPro to the Lumix bridge cams to an iPhone, it blows my mind that in 2016 we don't have 1080p120 as a standard feature on Pro Cams.
