FS5: Sony releases v1.1 firmware

After many including Alister, Doug, RedShark told me in one form or another that we were crazy and there was no noise problem too. Shows you to be critical of so-called "experts" and manufacturer apologists. I call it as I see it, good or bad. And Sony did good here. They precisely addressed the problem. The example in Newsshooter's site is exactly what I was talking about. Well done Sony. Well done! As for the others who said it was the shooter, I've lost all respect.

..... Soooooo... I'm not a moron who uses cameras incorrectly because I have to shoot at somewhat higher ISOs for every wedding I shoot????!!

Good on Sony for listening to the 'complainers', fixing the actual image problem and setting the record straight.

Good to hear! Can't wait to download the new firmware.

When my camera arrived i did not get any problems with noise or artefacts, but i was able to replicate this in a store before my purchase. Alisters article on 'Complainers' i found extremely disrespectful. He might shoot the skies and storms in daylight but some if not most users need to add some gain, heck thats what its there for.

At this stage I never go over +6db of gain and if i need more light i lower the shutter. But i'll be interested to check this new firmware out to see what +9db looks like just in case i need it. :)

Good on ya Sony :)

No your not a MORON, and i'd like to see an apology from Alister for having made you and other long time users feel that way !

Hey, don't lump me in with Alister!!! I don't recall ever telling people there wasn't a macro blocking problem -- even though it did not effect me and I was not able to reproduce the problem myself. And I know for sure that I didn't chastise anyone who said they saw the problem or told them they didn't know how to shoot if they did. I was agnostic on the whole thing, so please don't lump me in with Alister and his ranting blog. That is the person you have a beef with, not me. I piss off enough people with some of the things I actually do say, so I don't need to take heat for something I never said.

I agree with that!

Yep Doug i'm with you all the way. Its Alister who did the ranting.

btw- i now call myself a Master of the FS5 from yr Master Class, I highly recommend people buy it :)

I'm sorry but you did state this "Until they fix what? I am not aware of any noise issues on the FS5 that Sony is supposedly working on. When it is exposed properly and graded properly in post, S-LOG on the FS5 looks just fine."

That's not neutrality; that's telling the user who complained about noise that he was wrong about Sony fixing anything to do with noise.

This was not an entirely true statement as Sony themselves admitted there were two faults that they then fixed - both related in some manner to noise processing (both directly and as a consequence of the codec tweak). These were significant noise processing issues that messed many people's shots. Instead you told people they shot "horribly" (among other slanderous statements) and insinuated any problems they saw were their own doing. This despite Sony admitting otherwise.

Sure Allister has gone absolutely mad, and no you aren't him. He was far more "out there" in this debacle. And I actually like your videos and have purchased them in the past.

But at the very least you admit you saw no problems with the camera and in quite condescending language to others told them information about fixes that was contrary to evident fact. That's why you're in that list.

Frankly I have no "beef" with you, or anyone. I don't care personally about what Alister or you think about anything in the end if you both are going to be so consistently mean spirited to shooters. And Allister is far worse than you I'll admit, but you're not exactly giving off warm and fuzzies to people when you slam their work or technique.

I just think it's disingenuous to condescend or (in alisters case downright attack) people contrary to manufacturer supported fact when we are all a small group of creatives trying to make pretty pictures. It's contradictory to common decency and I'm tired of it. Im not immune to it myself by the way, but at I'm trying not to assume the worst about people out of the gate like so many do on the Internet. It's just not being a good person.

Incidentally the firmware is now out. I intended to upgrade at the office but I forgot the AC cable :( Tonight it will be.

Yes was speaking to my a fellow cam op about this and he was a bit disappointed with the image issues at high iso, he also does weddings, I guess if there is a lot of complaints about an issue then they have to listen regardless of who is right or wrong.

Paul, you can characterize what I said anyway that suits you, but you are wrong about what I said and what I meant. You deserve to take a victory lap because you got Sony to admit the problem and issue a fix, but I wasn't even running in the race so your victory isn't over me and I make no apologies whatsoever for not being able to recreate the problem. In fact, I probably won't even bother to do the update. I don't want to go through a point by point correction of the other things you said a few posts ago, so I'll just ignore them and I hope we can just agree to disagree and this will be the end of it here. Let's shake hands and walk away.
