Let me be a bit more direct ...
If I spend $7000 plus for a camera ... the last thing I want is to buy a cheap battery that has the potential to fry
the camera and allow Sony to void my warranty ...
Hope that is a bit more clear.

Does anyone know of an instance when a cheap battery fried a camera?
Yes, see the link just above that I mentioned before.
Bad mechanical tolerances resulting in short circuit between power and data pins.
'It appears that the reason for this clamp down is because it was discovered that the design of some of these 3rd party batteries was such that the battery could be inserted into the camera in a way that instead of power flowing through the power pins to the camera, power was flowing through the data pins. This will burn out the circuit boards in the camera and the camera will no longer work.'
About the Sony charger, it has 5 pins so probably it communicates with the battery. It's not the case for the aftermarket chargers. They have only the 2 pins for the power.
Next question.
What are people using for bags or backpacks? I have my Peli 1510 for when it's broken down but looking for a small bag that can take a fully built cam with lens plus some extras. Something nice and light and my last Tenba Cineluxe was lovely but weighed several times more than this camera! That said the '16' version is on my radar.
