F55: Sony Pro Community Forum (Gone)

There was some however, friendly and personal. They apprised us of upcoming features and updates. Some of it wasn't always 100% correct. Support for the FZ mount lenses for example. Was there *ever* more than one lens made for this mount? It's amazing to think, a mount so strong you could use it to attach a PL mount, and have it support a T2.9 300mm Red Pro Prime without a lens support.

That's another Sony thing. They come up with good ideas, make promises to customers and then just drop it like a hot potato, leaving everybody out in the cold.

I really appreciate the fact that Sony called their camera the "Venice" and that they are also using the name "Rialto".
Producers and directors who hire us rarely have any clue about model numbers and have no idea of the difference between an A7R, an F55, an RX10, or an FS5...
which doesn't help us owner/operators compete with owners of cameras with catchy names such as Dragon, Monstro, Gemini, Epic, and Alexa.

Because there are cheap Handycams and other low end consumer models in Sony's line-up, it's hard not to simply hire someone with a "Red" instead -
because there's no chance they will be embarrassed later when the DP they hired shows up with a toy camera.

I wish the FS7 was called the Barracuda or something. I get it that Sony is an international company and somewhere on the globe someone might not buy it because "a barracuda ate my dog" or they're considered unlucky in Guam, or something.
(Look at KFC's blunder in offending Chinese etiquette with their slogan "Finger Lick'in Good").

But, just imagine Chevy trying to sell a car called the PXW-FS7MII...

Point taken about model designations.

Or worse still like Mitsubishi calling a 4 x 4 "Pajero." https://forum.wordreference.com/threads/pajero.31083/

Or Rolls Royce wanting to call one of their models a "Silver Mist" until they discovered what "mist" often meant in German. "Silver Dung" didn't ring to well :)
