Sony NEX FS700-4K?

Can we please put this to rest?
My FS100 saw a lot of rough handling, abuse and took several dives from the jib arm and tripod.
Twice on rock/concrete and once on a hardwood floor.
It takes quite a lot of Flak, looks a bit battled - but still working just fine.
Not even some of the so called "flimsy plastic" or the handle came of.

Frank

I don´t say it is weak; but the C300 is built very differently to any SONY cam in "these price ranges" (F3, EXs, FSs). I know the big SONYs take a beating. But they start at 20.000.

Thanks for the links, guys! :)

Yea well. I know how the 'upgrade' promises go. It's the carrot that they dangle in front of your nose to get you to jump off the fence and buy Sony. So when the 'upgrade' option finally appears, either there's been a paradigm shift that makes it irrelevant or someone else is offering a complete 4K ready package out of the box for less.
My reference is back in the Macintosh Clone days, I bought into the same concept. Back when Sprint was King of the GSM hill, I bought into the same concept. Down the timeline the upgrades simply don't materialize, making early adopters.....SUCKERS...subsidizing Sony R&D.
No thanks. Not yet. I'm a mid stream adopter- unless I have paying jobs on hand that will subsidize ME

Are digital cameras beating Moore's law? I love technology.

How would that be? Moore's law is about the processing power (per size) of micro circuitry.
What digital imaging is beating- is your bank account.
I doubt most owners put together can show more than a dozen festival wins or so for all the money that they've spent.
So forget Moore's Law. Tell me how much has been spent on "Prosumer" Gear in the past 5 years?
We need a Zephyrnoid's Law... "The spending propensity of the enthusiast film maker / glamorous photographer, doubles every 18 months, and by the year 2020, the average spent on upgraded digital cameras will have been $20,000 per person"

No -- otherwise, we'd be up to 16K by now, for about $2,000.

True but I bet that we will have a 4k camera in 18 months for $4,000 bucks.

I dont think the majority of users out there are making films for film festivals. Its insanely hard. But $20k is not a lot of money for a lot of people. I don't fit in that category but a lot of people do, and if they are into buying the next awesome camera more power to them. I am glad they are around because without a growing market I think we would still be dreaming of a $8K camera that can do 4k.

I am going to win no matter what because now I can afford an AF-100, and as you already know the camera is not the most important thing.

This is AWESOME news. I loved the FS100 in my brief time using it. From the announced specs, this seems like a MUST BUY!

Oh wow, I know they say 'good things come to those who wait', but this is ridiculous. Looks like I just found my first owned video camera.

Yes you and many others looking for used cameras will win big. I just hope the value for the AF100 doesn't really fall through the floor come Summer time when I'm ready to upgrade, whether to this camera or Canon's or stay with Panasonic. I hope to get a decent buck from selling my AF100.

Who cares what Sony charges for a 4k recorder? All I care is that it is not Sony proprietary output.

If it is an open... I think we'll get something very affordable when Sound Devices, AJA, Convergent Designs & Atomos all offer their own 4k recorders.

Seems like a very big "IF" to me.

Yes, no one knows if this is not going to cost at least the price of a working Scarlet package for the 4k upgrade. Because for external recorders, I see only one 444 10 bit recorder for $ 6000. So what would a 4k raw recorder cost!!!!!!!

The extra faith I have in Sony comes from the fact that EX1 cameras can record to SDHC cards better after a firmware upgrade, essentially cutting into SxS card sales & profits. We'll have to wait & see, but I'd bet that it won't be a Sony only 4k output, opening up the door for third party recorders.

This may ultimately prove unnecessary. I expect Blackmagic to release a 4K version of the Hyperdeck Shuttle. Indiecam is already recording 12-bit 2K raw to the original Hyperdeck Shuttle -- how they get their 3G-SDI to work with the Hyperdeck Shuttle's HD-SDI is unknown to me, but apparently they did. The ideal would be some cheap CineForm-RAW solution, although that might be an oxymoron.
