Sony LA-EA2

Not really a problem for me. (I mean, I wouldn't change the iris while recording anyway?) and if I do, I edit that part out anyway.

It depends on what you are doing, I personally don't like 'steppy' iris at all. Not that I can't use it, it will work for a lot of things,
but I also do a fair number of 'corporates' where you may follow someone from a darker room, into a lighter room, and it is nice to be able to
'ride' iris smoothly to compensate for the extra light that is coming into the room. I hear the Metabones adapter is pretty smooth
with the iris control, so I was wondering about the Sony adapter. The rumor was that this 'new' version of the A to E adapter was
going to enable 'smooth' iris, but I guess that is not the case. Thanks for the info on this, good info to know.

From what I hear it's not as bad as the LA-ea1 which (I'm told) went from like 8.0 to wide open then back to 6.5. The la-ea2 just goes from 8.0 straight to 6.5 without the flop to wide open. But yea, It's steppy in as much as it makes the shot during the change unusable.

The EA2 is a lot better than the EA1 and also it depends on the lens you're using. The SSM lenses seem better and quieter. I don't believe any Sony Alpha lens will do step-less aperture, they're just not designed for that. All 1/3 stop increments. The EA1 had to open up fully then stop down when you moved in one of the directions (i assume a calibration thing internally). I'm not sure whether the EA2 does that or just does it fast enough i don't notice.

I'm not sure about Canon on e mount either, i think that's the same stepping.

The emounts might be capable but i don't think you can do an iris ramp, they still change in increments but are quiet.

The only way you'd get smooth iris is declicking a manual lens and doing it yourself

The only e mount glass I have is the kit lens but it definately "ramps" as you call it. My impression is the iris just changes to the assigned F stop in a slow fashion so it appears to ramp/transition VS the quick boom boom boom of the A glass LA-EA2 combo.
It's my opinion you could use footage with the Emount lens while changing the iris. (for certain projects) I wouldn't ever use any from the Aglass/ la-ea2 combo under any situation. (just toooo distracting)
