Sony FS700 gets $1000 instant rebate

Unclear about this. The FS700R requires the Odyssey in order to ... record 4K/2K 12-Bit RAW Output??? Is that right? The Atomos Shogun won't work for this? Or the soon to be released PIX-E5?
I don't own an FS700R but I think that's right. I haven't heard the FS700R being used with the Shogun yet other than some rumors Atomos may support it in the future. No word about the E5.

I didn't mean to imply the FS700 is discontinued; rather, I'm just doubting there will be a FS700 v2. The FS7 already seems to completely upgrade and fill the roll of the FS700 in enough ways to merit the FS7 as the successor.
There'll be something wth 4K for less than $8,000. The question is when (and, to some extent, where). A $2,000 gap is unlikely, so this would have to be around $4,000 - the old "price doubling" concept - but that's where JVC LS300 is currently positioned and the Japanese companies usually stay away from the "friendly fire" for some time after the product release. And, in the ILC world, A7s has the $2,500 niche taken.

At some point, naturally, 4K as the feature will see a major price collapse and, IMO, it'll happen around the 2016 Euros/Olympics.

Shogun is 'scheduled' to come out with a Sony FS raw update this month. I have not
heard that the E5 will support anything. However, in my opinion, the Odyssey is the
clear winner for a FS700 owner. The amount of options (4k Raw, 2k Raw, or HD ProRes
derived fron Raw as well as 4k ProRes) as well as frame rates (even 120 at 4k Raw) is
just amazing.

I have an Odyssey 7Q+ which I bought to use with my A7S and FS700. I have not bought the $1000 license to use the Odyssey to get 4K out of the FS700 yet. That is a lot of money (an increase in price for FS700 users from a while back before they packaged the 4K RAW options for all cameras together). For $695 more I can get the new SHOGUN bare bones which will do 4K on the FS700 soon, and I will have another recorder/monitor to boot, which has resale value. That is a very appealing alternative for the FS700. Convergent Design needs to recreate the FS700 only package at a lower cost if they want my money for their software.
