Sony FS700 gets $1000 instant rebate

FS100 - $2,500 (w/ free Metabones)
C100 - $3,000
FS700 - $5,000 (w/ free Metabones)1

Seriously, a great time to buy if you need a new (or extra camera). At these prices, with these features, there is no reason to get a Canon 5D III unless you really need FF / compact size & don't need good & easy audio.

Wow. Just makes you wonder what's coming next? And I say this as a happy FS700 owner.

They're still riding out the fs7. You'll see the F6 before the fs770 or whatever they'll call it.

Yes and the inclusion - or exclusion - of a codec and limitation of a recording bit rate are the easiest "crippling" methods available.

The other way out for Sony on FS7 is to adjust the price on that Raw attachment, much like they did with the digital interface on FS700 (into SR5). This would take FS770 (I insist!) into the C300 MK I range, but with 4K, while FS7 can also get a Raw deal (but not a raw deal) to compete with C300 MK II.

I suspect the FS100 & 700 are the end-of-line.
FS100 has already been announced as discontinued, but that is not the case for the FS700. Note that this rebate offer is by Sony US, not Sony worldwide. It is a promotion by the US subsidiary, not the company clearing off the shelves.

Not to be argumentative, but according to this link, the FS700 (at least the body only version)
has been discontinued. Now B&H has got this kind of thing wrong before, so I'm not sure.
Is it really discontinued? I have no idea. so I'm putting no particular weight on it, other
than to point out the link DOES say discontinued.

I still believe (without any evidence whatsoever) that the FS700 "replacement" will be a full frame FS camera. Maybe limited codecs, maybe 8bit, maybe limited frame rates to keep price down. They need a proper full frame e-mount video camera to go with the 28-135 lens and future full frame cine lenses.
A video camera version of the A7s with improved processing and internal 4K XAVC-S, 30p 4K, 120p HD would make perfect sense to me. This would most likely be a testing ground for a more pro full frame video camera coming later.
Anyway, that's just my guess/prediction ;)

I didn't mean to imply the FS700 is discontinued; rather, I'm just doubting there will be a FS700 v2. The FS7 already seems to completely upgrade and fill the roll of the FS700 in enough ways to merit the FS7 as the successor.

Sony rarely does "version twos" of any cameras. They come out with completely new models. One of the rare exceptions was the F900, which went through several versions in its lifespan. On lower end cameras they really don't do this very much. Occasionally there will be something like the EX1r, which was a revision of the very popular EX1.

Hmmm. This brings the FS700 into direct comparisons with the Ursa Mini which is in the same price range. Of course the FS700R requires the Odyssey recorder, which is $2300 plus license. Still, it would be good to see image comparisons between the two once the Mini 4.6K is available for retail sale.

The FS700 is still a relevant camera and with the price reduction will sell. It fits nicely in the Sony lineup with a 4K option. Canon's C100 MKII doesn't have a 4K option of any kind. URSA Mini is a wild card and who knows what's in store for first adopters. Seen this play-out before.

Unclear about this. The FS700R requires the Odyssey in order to ... record 4K/2K 12-Bit RAW Output??? Is that right? The Atomos Shogun won't work for this? Or the soon to be released PIX-E5?
