Sony FS7 Quick Release Base Plate

Hi all,

Just wondering if someone could point me in the right direction here. I want to use my v lock quick release base plate ( from my old xdcam 350 ) with the FS7. I've searched all over google and can't seem to find the front V wedge that attaches to the underside of the camera. I found the rear insert plate here:

And this is basically the Base Plate I'm trying to use ( but much older )

I'm sure other FS7 users use this plate so maybe someone can suggest where I can find that missing piece.

Thanks in advance!

Jamie

If you don't need shoulder capability I found the option that worked best for me is a full-length Genus GL GAP VCT-14 plate that screws on the bottom of the FS7 and then just clips straight into a Sony VCT-14 tripod plate. Out of production but some dealers may have them. The other similar solution though also out of production though I've picked up a couple off eBay are the Libec AP1 adapter plates that work with the Sony VCT-14s.

What is still available to the best of my knowledge in a short 'V' toe plate that works with Sony VCT-14 tripod plates is the Triad VPL-10A. Or in long plates with toe and heel are the DM plates. Links below.

Thanks all! I totally forgot about shoulder support but after looking at the Zacuto option I also found the Smallrig VCT plate option and watched a few comparison videos on both. Seems like Smallrig for 200 bucks performs pretty much the same as the Zacuto for 600 so may go that route.

Thanks again! Appreciate you both taking the time to post some advice!

I looked at both as well and ended up choosing the Smallrig...if only for the price difference, so far happy with the decision. fwiw.

I've been using the Smallrig / Sony VCT plate combo for a few years now—initially with the Fs5, now with the FX6. So far the Smallrig has been great.

Yea I think the only difference I saw in the comparison videos was that the Zacuto has a memory foam shoulder pad and the Smallrig didn't....but in the same breath the reviewer said it didn't really make a difference to him. So I think I'm going smallrig, seems like a lot of value for the price.

Thanks everyone!

I assume you mean the small rig shoulder mount system for the FS7 that will then attach to a Sony VCT-14 plate. If that's it . I have one and a few others I know. The only negative is it doesn't mate very well to the original Sony VCT-14. Just a PITA to snap in. We all just sprang a few bucks for the Small Rig version and that works great .
