  • 4K RAW output*

The CBKZ-FS5RIF upgrade licence allows the PXW-FS5 camcorder to output 4K (4096x2160) RAW at 23.98p, 25p, 29.97p, 50p and 59.94p, recording to the AXS-R5 external recorder attached with the HXR-IFR5 interface unit (sold separately).

PXW-FS5 requires Version 2.0 firmware or above.
  • Simultaneous XAVC HD internal recording*

While outputting 4K/2K RAW to the AXS-R5, it is possible to simultaneously record XAVC HD on SD memory cards in the camcorder’s internal dual media slots. One application of this could be that the RAW recording is used for production and XAVC HD for on-set review.

    * PXW-FS5 requires Version 2.0 firmware or above.
  • 4K cached RAW output*

Approximately 4 seconds of cached 4K RAW can be output at 100 or 120 fps as 23.98p, 25p, 29.97p or 59.94p.

    * PXW-FS5 requires Version 2.0 firmware or above.
  • Continuous high speed 2K RAW output*

    You can output continuous 2K RAW at 100, 120, 200 or 240 fps as 23.98p, 25p, 29.97p or 59.94p.

    * PXW-FS5 requires Version 2.0 firmware or above.

Really interesting update.
Do we anticipate there will be a dramatic improvement in the colours and image out of the F5 because of this?

What I'm more excited about is the Ver. 2.1 upgrade that adds the MPEG2 1080P 422 50mbps codec. That makes this a true XDCAM, like it says on the camera. Broadcast clients still want XDCAM.

Does this include having to buy a Sony raw license?

The MPEG2 HD 422 is a separate license from the FS5 Raw license, its another 500 euros. You have to buy both licenses if you want to have RAW and MPEG2 in the FS5 , 1000 euros total

Firmware 2.0 is free and required to be installed prior to installing both paid licenses.

FS RAW upgrade for FS5 announced at NAB

Hi all again! Very exciting news these days…
Maybe you’ve just heard/read it in the typical NAB announcements or via social media (https://youtu.be/WnitX19JZeo?t=2m50s ); the expected (and announced since the beginning) “FS RAW” upgrade for PXW-FS5 (“CBKZ-FS5RIF”) will be available soon. Very soon. So, let’s see what it means.

So does this mean there is an FS5R coming with a RAW upgrade firmware pre-installed?

Its possible, I also hear the new F55/F5 successors are probably getting announced next year at NAB with integrated R7 back end raw recorders. but that's just a rumor at this stage.

right now the 7Q+ is the only option to record 4k 60fps prores from the FS5 with the 2.0FW? correct?
the new atomos look like great screens but the ones available now ( https://www.atomos.com/flame/shogun/ ) can only do 4k 30fps? the new announced https://www.atomos.com/inferno/ will be able to do 4K 60fps but won't ship until later this year
so if i want 4k 60fps prores (once the 2.0 fw is out) from the FS5, the 7q+ is the only way to go...for now...?

If you want it now O7Q+ is the only thing , unless you go AXS-R5 + Interface
thanks....maybe odyssey will come out with something as well....and for now the fw isn't out yet anyway...
this makes the FS5 a pretty unbelievable camera and deal IMO....hard to beat, especially size/weight and that auto ND feature could be one of those things that you never knew you needed until you had it and then it is impossible to live without..

I wish the FS7 had that digital ND! Would love to run Cine EI w/native 2000ISO and use additional ND to taste in full sun.

Wait so the upgrade can be done by the user? Doesn't have to get sent in to the service center like the FS700 did?

Nope, it's a license they sent you in the mail - inside there is a key and you put that into the camera on an SD card and you're good to go. No service centre needed , as the FS700E, which requireda board install. the FS700R had the board installed in the factory before shipping.

The FS5 uses more modern electronics and probably the same board as the FS700R , which means Raw update license is user update-able.
