FS7: Sony FS RAW compatibility shown in new Atomos Shogun timetable

In this new firmware timetable published by Atomos it looks like they're aiming to have 4K ProRes capability from Sony FS cameras (FS700 & FS7 presumably) sometime in the next 10 weeks or so. It appears to max out at 30p. The next step, projected out about 4-6 months, is to get DNG RAW compatibility. It's nice to see Atomos plans on the Shogun being an expanding product.

I spoke with someone at Atomos. The explanation makes sense, though is not entirely desirable. The RAW signal comes out of the FS camera into the Shogun, the Shogun the needs to process it into an actual video image and compress it to ProRes. In this processing and compressing step it needs to apply some kind of image parameters. The parameters Atomos has chosen is REC709. It's very similar to what Convergent Design does with the ProRes conversion in the Odyssey, except, i believe convergent Design use S-LOG2 as the chosen image parameter. Later, when Atomos ads .DNG RAW recording (in the next 6 months) it will be able to record an unaltered RAW signal, free of image parameters. I hope that all adds up. Let me know if there are any questions. Thank you.

Interesting that they are saying ProRes will come first when originally they were promising RAW and couldn't give a clear indication of if the Shogun had the power to go RAW to ProRes.

Even so, now that they are putting this on paper, it might be good for Convergent Design. Their offering already does RAW up to 60 4K and 240 2K, along with 4K ProRes up to 30 and 1080p ProRes up to 60... Of course, the 7Q had growing pains and took a long time to get here, but if you compare the Shogun and 7Q+ right this moment, 7Q+ is clearly leagues ahead.
