F55: Sony F''s now shipping

Twitter is lighting up, looks like a lot of retailers got a lot of boxes yesterday and today. I've seen two retailers advertise that they have F5s ready to go, no waiting.

In related news, Abel called and I'll be picking my 55 up at end of today or tomorrow. No OLED though, no batteries, no charger. I'm rethinking my Sony battery choice at moment, but I'll probably stick with them because they'll go twice the cycles. If I need bigger batts for other jobs, easy and cheap enough to rent.

Congrats Nate! Glad to see you got it. Bummer on the OLED.
No word yet on my order....do you know how many Abel LA recieved?

Yeah the thread derailed but I figured I'd chime in.

I've always owned, used & loved Sony cameras. EX1, EX3, FS-100, FS-700, and by far my favorite: F3 w/ S-log.

I hate Red fan boys. I always heard negative things about Red's f-ing up on set so I never considered them.

In November, they sold BT Red One MX's for $4,000 and I couldn't resist (I've lost many gigs simply because I didn't have a Red, which is stupid).

I shot a few things on the Red One. Shortly afterwards I sold all of my Sony & Canon gear. Red simply looks more filmic and more professional. If you're into films/narratives/commercials, Sony cameras don't compare. I own a Scarlet now as well, and honestly, Reds don't really screw up on set...not in my experience. The early adopters suffered through that.

Live/doc stuff, I would still go Sony though.

P.S. I still hate Red fan boys. They would tongue-punch Jannard's fartbox in a heartbeat if he teased breaking news about a firmware update.

Give it another year. You've only had it for 3-4 months.

Some are better than others. I've known some folks to have terrible problems, over and over, as there are a TON of Reds in LA and they're everywhere. Me, I never had THAT many problems. Here and there. Nothing catastrophic. Just annoying.

Here's mine; So far so great. Menu sure is laggy though.

As crazy as it sounds, I am debating switching back to the Sony handle. I am not sold on the "man handle" yet.

We went with a handle arrangement that is based on our tool-free dovetail. You can mount the handle in 5 different places facing forward or backward. The grip can also be reversed to face forward or backward with it's quick release. It also includes 15mm iris rod clamps. No screws, no tools.

This is a pic of Nate Weavers camera being handheld today.

Wow, you realize just how small that camera is when there's a big brick battery on the back.
Congrats guys...I'm jealous!

I don't really like the open-end-ness of it, if that makes sense.. The sony one feels surprisingly good.

As seen in the other thread, I spent yesterday afternoon with Carlos Acosta and the Solid Camera crew...

I'm really in love with everything he's done for the F55. The only question for me is just going to be how and how much of his stuff I'm going to buy. It's hard to put into words just how much thought has gone into his system.
