Sony F5/F55 Footage

Lame content and the compression is laughably bad; False alarm folks.

Because the clip was uploaded by someone who was using this camera out in the wild, not Sony, hence why it got taken down. There are people already test driving the first units, it does not mean anything they do is endorsed by Sony.

If thats the case they really need to shut down that video, its horrendous and shouldn't be allowed online. Everyone signs an NDA with Sony when you get the camera before launch, how the heck did this person get to upload this?

And before anyone says to me "I'm being too harsh" or "its only just footage from a guy who had it for 5 mins"... My answer to those are:

NO I'm not, because It's Sony's responsibility to put out a good product and please its consumer. How are they going to make money with a bad first impressions? There should be harsh talk, because simply put, they are hurting their own name with this crap. Regardless if they posted it or not. Dont put the camera in the hands of someone not capable of shooting good footage.

And that touches on the second part. Why are these people getting to shoot with the camera when they obviously shouldn't have the right to do so, when there are many more talented DP's out there who could have done so, and done a much better job? Do they even check someones reel? Where is the quality control to who gets to shoot with this first?

Also, the "use what you've got" wont be an excuse either. I can be in a field with nothing and still make pretty and dynamic images. Its the craftsmanship of the cinematographer, not the camera. That footage pissed me off and I'm letting it out on here. I had high hopes for Sony to clean up their act, but it seems like they have 0 idea about what the REAL cinematography world wants/likes. They are still treating their $20K+ cameras like they are handycams...

This is F65 territory, why are they not treating it with the same respect? They had Curtis Clark, ASC shoot the first tests with F65, why not the same treatment for the F55?

^ I agree out of sheer principle. The people over at RED are laughing their asses off right now. This is the wrong "first video" to be released and I honestly hope it is a hoax.

Ignore this. Wouldn't be surprised if a Red fanboi put it up. We'll see the real thing tomorrow in LA at Sony Studios.

That is some terrible footage, the Sony marketing department are living in a cave or what. Canon launch the C300 in Hollywood with Scorsese and hires ACS and give some good budget to get some short movies out in different settings and style. In the end they all praise the 8 bit camera!!! Sony comes out with 4k raw camera and we see this ugly type of footage that smell amateur in every way. Just slowmotion, shot overcast with flat grading and very ugly skin tone etc.

Did you read the whole thread? It's just some dumbаss who broke the NDA with his test shots, the original was taken down but someone already managed to download it and re-upload.

Yes. This is a broken NDA. No footage is supposed to be released until the Nov 28 event. Sony has very special punishments in store for those who break NDA.

THANK YOU! No doubt!

Don't worry, Sony will rain down, on this guy. Of course we'll never hear about it.

Here's what the schoolgirl was crying about. Her boyfriend the shooter......

The footage looked heavily aliased and shot with at least a 2x crop factor, I think it was BMCC footage and just one giant hoax.

This is probably not graded at all. It looks like the picture is more saturated then some of the other log cameras (which is a good thing since you can always dial down that in post).

I think its a hoax, someone trying to hurt Sony, or just an idiot who broke NDA who should have never gotten his hands on the camera in the first place. My only other guess is this is an engineer who took a prototype out for a day to test the camera, and stupidly decided it was "good" footage and posted it. Engineers have always proven to shoot the worst stuff.

And last note is... Sony better use Vimeo for their footage release, because YouTube is a JOKE. Horrible compression on that site, it should never be used. Hope this all blows over!
