Sony F3 Forum is now here

We now have a new Sony F3 forum - please move all your F3 discussions there from now on.
You'll find it at the top of the page as a subforum of this forum.

Or just go to it directly here:

Thanks.

The F3 has been banished to a sub-forum? Nobody checks those things, the other subforum here is pretty much dead.

The fact is that the F3 gets most of the conversation because its the new device, the EX1/EX3 can barely fill a page worth of threads in a month. And this is a "XDCAM" forum, I know some EX1/EX3 users (that don't have interest in the F3) have complained because they have trouble reading through more than one page or using the search function, but by definition it isn't devoted to one camera over the other. There needs to be some better middle ground than this.

In general though, this isn't a very active forum, even with the F3 talk, its not like this forum is being inundated with active conversation (we're averaging maybe one or two new threads a day). I feel its a huge disservice to folks as there is going to be a lot question as the F3 is about to launch in the next few weeks to a month, and hiding it away in a subforum that is I guess now devoted to the older EX cameras has little merit.

Nothing has been 'banished' - things are still being shifted around.
Creating a subforum was the easiest and fastest way to group the conversation from where it was, so that's what was done right now.
Everything is a work in progress.

Fair enough, 'work in progress'. It wasn't made clear in the original post that this may be temporary.

My only request as a user would be that there is some level of coherence to how you organize this. Categorizing, sub-categorizing, and compartmentalizing the user base does make sense for a high-volume forum like the AF100, but nesting these slower forums means that the conversations doesn't receive the exposure by the larger community as a whole which can provide necessary knowledge as well as dissenting opinions and perspectives.

But putting a camera into a subforum is pretty akin to banishing; its unnecessary obfuscation. While most of us would love to have the luxury in time of checking all the various forums regularly, most of have to be fairly selective of how we view this site.

Here's my $.02 -

Rename Sony XDCam to Sony Cameras

Put the Sony XDCam messages into a sub forum of Sony Cameras

Put the F3 subforum inside Sony XDCam into the renamed Sony Cameras forum. Done. It should have been this way before to match the Canon Cameras subforum.
