Sony EX1 Optimization Kit Now Available

I agree, there shouldn't be a difference between customers who have their 77mm Lex and ones still waiting. BUT...and this is a massive Jennifer Lopez but...Letus didn't have to make a fix for the ex1 as it is a Sony issue not a lex issue, but they went out of their way very quickly after Steve Cahill posted his video that showed the problems in details. They even bought an EX1 at an inflated price so they could get it done ASAP. They have made this from scratch in a very fast time. Personally, I am incredibly grateful and very willing to pay them for a fix they were not obliged to make. They have fixed the one flaw of the ex1/ letus combo. Now I can start doing some really cracking sharp footage!

By the way, I have always struggled with edge to edge sharpness with every adaptor I have owned. The best results I have had by far have been with the letus extreme mini and hv20, which you can see on my blog. In my old shootout I found the SGPro had the best at the time.

My dungeness short I did manage to get my best ever ex1 edge sharpness but until i get the add on I will always be battling it!

Don't get me wrong! It'll be great if they do the upgrade price and exchange of achromats (with stipulations to achromat condition of course).

Just sayin', like Will stated. But the Letus Corp always takes care of the customer in the fairest way possible!

I hope they "takes care of the customer in the fairest way possible" because I found the problem right away when I got my Letus adapter. I contacted Letus's support right away but they never did answer me. So I posted a couple of threads in here and then Aaron PM me about the problem that they're working on a add-on to fix this problem. I was under the "impression" that this add-on will either be free of charge for those who purchased the Letus for the EX1 that noticed this problem or for an partial price upgrade or exchange. This add-on is specially created to resolve the problem that Letus adapter wasn't able to create an edge to edge sharpness with the EX1 camera as advertised. If this is a truly an upgrade kit, it would apply to all other cameras and not just the EX1.

do we have a published how to guide for us to follow. Would love to give you some cracking footage. I found the CF1LE was usable but the CF2LE was just too soft on the edges

I had some communication recently with Aaron, who stated that Letus plans to offer a series of camera-specific fixes for sharpness problems, and that the EX-1 was the first. From this I inferred that the HVX200 (which I own, and that has well known issues of this kind with the LEX) will be another to get the special treatment. When this will happen was not disclosed, but given their relatively quick work on the EX I'd like to be optimistic it won't be too long. Here's hoping...

It's been stated on the forum that the HVX200 will have an XY adjustment unlike the rest. =D

Can't wait!

Hey everyone. We are working on a trade-in option for those of you who have the stock achromat and want to exchange it for the EX1 version for the lower price. We'll get more details posted soon. Hien and I were just discussing a solution. We are doing what we can to make this fair for everyone so please bare with us as we get everything worked out.

Amazing! Excellent! Perfect! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

For people like me who do films and videos as a hobby and out of passion along with their "day time" jobs it is a big deal to spend 8000 euros on EX1, LEX and lenses. When you run into problems like these it's no-ones fault really but one can't help but feel a bit let down.

This kinda care from Letus really makes you really appreaciate their work.

Thank you Aaron, LETUS ROCKS! Sorry for my tantrums, I love you guys.

xD Told ya they take care of it in a fair way. People just have to give some time to work it out, s'all.

Go EX-1/Letus!

The $349 for the archomat and 77mm thread update is very high.

Especially since a lot of us already have the 77mm thread to begin with. Also with the upgrade, we dont have any need for the non Sony Ex1 archomat anymore.

I think a number of us were misled by things that we read on the forum and I guess it means you have to take everything you read with a grain of salt. It would be nice if the statements people make here would be a little more circumspect.

I think Barry and quite a few others made a number of claims about the Letus when it first came out - it was the fastest , the only one to have corner to corner sharpness - but they didn't actually have its competitors around for comparison, and many of the claims turned out to be hyperbole. That's not to knock the Letus which is a great unit and raised the bar on the flip enormously but the claims made for it were off the map.

I think it was actually Philip Bloom who first said the Letus and the Ex-1 were perfect marches and I for one bought my Ex-1 based on that. I already had a Letus. Shame on me as i should have tested it myself first, but I don't regret it. Later Philip backed off his original statement but until a day ago you could stiil read all kinds of claims made for this or that adapter with the Ex. They never mention that you needed f8 to get that corner to corner sharpness. Both Cinevate and Letus have tended to spin their own merits but perhaps we should expect that from manufacturers. I trust that this new Letus achromat will do the job, but shots of a sharp dollar bill don't make it as a serious test in my mind and I'll be agnostic until I see it put through its paces properly. (Tests I would be happy to do Hienle!)

The Sony Ex has put a strain on all of these guys and perhaps Letus the most because they have a sealed system. When Brevis comes out with a fix ( which I expect they will soon enough) it will be easier for it to adapt to existing units because its all modular already. It seems like Letus has now come up with a new version of their adapter that also is modular - i.e. changeable achromats and they probably now realize that's a better design. They are also building in offset adjustments that may or may not be part of the new unit, but you can bet are coming soon.

Meanwhile Letus probably has a financial issue to deal with that you have to sympathise with. Most of us have units we bought in good faith assuming that it would be adaptable to different cameras and specifically the Sony EX. It will probably not be cheap for them to exchange all those units instead of just selling a new achromat. Plus you have a similar issue with the SGPro flip.

I for one dearly hope they are willing to make that exchange because the original Letus will pretty much lose all of its value on the market as soon as the modular one is available, and many of us are moving to the Ex or plan to stay with both cameras for awhile. I don't like the ideas of spending another $1200 for the Ex alone. It sure would be good marketing and good will on their part, but it won't be cheap.
