Sony comsumer APS HD camcorder announced

It looks really unwieldly with the lens being that much larger than the body - BUT

add a pistol grip handle like my super 8 Camera:

And it would be an absolute blast to use this

And probably get you shot because like you know like it's better to be safe than sorry like :Drogar-Mad(DBG):

As a camera aimed strictly at consumers, this would be stupid: slow, expensive, limited-range zooms (or even slower, longer zooms), shallow DOF, and heavy, unwieldy design. Unless Sony optimizes the NEX sensor for video (meaning minimal aliasing and rolling-shutter wobble/skew), includes 24p, HDMI output (preferably 10-bit and before compression), higher data rates (maximum of at least 24 MBps), and reasonable manual control, then it would be pretty pointless for more professional uses.

because Guns usually come in White or Sony Metallic right?

Just me being smug I guess. In Los Angeles we have plenty of gang activity - but you're way more likely to get jacked for your camera than to get shot for filming with one that has a "pistol-like" grip. Anyway, I have street-cred on my block - all the kids like me. Do you?

Well, over here they shoot Brazilian electricians wearing ruck-sacks "Because it's better (For whom?) to be safe than sorry" :Drogar-Mad(DBG)::Drogar-Mad(DBG)::Drogar-Mad(DBG):
And don't get me started on PCSO numpties :Drogar-Mad(DBG):.
/rant,
now back OT

I LOVE THIS FORUM! I just learned two new things today:

PCSO = Police Community Support Officer (Semi-Privatized Police force)

Numptie = Dolt or Idiot in the British Parlance.

I never knew things were so... 1984... in Britain right now. Scary! I apologize for assuming that things were as casual in the UK as they appear to be in California these days. You never know though - lots of Turmoil in Arizona right now...

In any case I'd rather be shooting film than:kali: but I hope things get better for everyone over there, and things smoothe out here as well :)

I think the key is the E-Mount. From there many developments are possible. I wait for Canon to have a new mount for mirror-less cameras.

If they decide to do a grip handle it'll probably be via the tripod mount on the lens. These SLR lenses can be pretty heavy, and a basic photographers rule is to support the camera via the lens not the body. I remember a friend of mine snapped the mount right off the body of an older Canon Rebel (which heavily used plastics) when he mounted a 70-200mm F/2.8L lens he borrowed from me and didn't support properly.

For their part Sony seems to get it, they have an accessory support module that comes with the Alpha-mount adapter, I would hope Sony, and Panasonic for the AF100, offers a grip handle accessory that can be attached via tripod mount.

Any one know anything about Nikon F mount to Sony E mount adaptors? I googled it without much success.
Such adapters don't exist because the E mount was introduced with the new mirrorless NEX-3 and NEX-5 cameras, which haven't even been begun shipping yet.

Better for shooting and Video with space for the Mic HDMI Connection. Even with 70-200 & 100/400 is the handling better in Landscape and Portrait I gain 1 -2 shutter speed.
