Sony AX2000: what image quality?

Hi,
I'd like to replace my Sony FX7 (HDV PAL) with a better camera. I make documentaries around the world. I take an interest about Sony AX2000 for its size and weight. But I'd like to ask a question please:
if I will make shots with full sunlight, I will get the same quality of image of EX1? What image quality in comparison with EX1 and FX7? For example, will AX2000 give better image than FX7 in full sunlight or the same?
Thanks for your suggestions.

The AX2000 has a 1/3" sensor (up from the 1/4" FX7), but is still has only 1 megapixel per sensor. An EX1 is a full raster >2 megapixel per sensor.

I don't own an AX2000, but from the hardware it shouldn't be much different than your FX7, but it does do 24p if that's your biggest consideration. For $3,500 plus tax, I'd rather get a used EX1. I saw a used EX1 the other day for $4,200, and several for $4,500.

I bought mine used and don't have a minutes regret. The EX1 shows you the meter hours, but that's not as relevant as it is with a tape based camera because there are very few moving parts. Look at the overall condition and test every function you can before you buy it. The EX1 is a tank anyway. You should read Buck Foresters thread on the abuse his camera has taken.

You are right perfectly, I'd like to buy a used EX1 but I'm hesitant because it has a bigger size than AX2000 ... then in Europe (Pal system) it is very hard to find an used EX1.
Thanks for your suggestions.

Like Duke M, I got my EX1 second hand as well and can vouch for how amazing the image quality & XDCAM codec is. It is an expensive camera (even second hand) compared to prosumer cameras but the investment is totally worth it.

Keep in mind the EX1 can record both PAL or NTSC. You can buy the camera anywhere (but some countries have the dreaded VAT tax.)

... thanks for your wonderful and appreciated replies. But does anyone knows differences of image qualitry between EX1 and AX2000?

Implicit in my earlier response, the EX1 has literally twice the true resolution. Resolution isn't everything, but with the appropriate picture profiles the EX1 looks beautiful. Other than that its going to be personal taste.

Hi Evro,
thanks for your reply. Could tell me how much time it is possible to record with a 32GB SxS card? Do you use it?
Thanks
