Sony announces a 4K projector for the home (on sale this December)

Why would anyone need a 4k projector in the home at any price? The only purpose I can think of would be web browsing with embedded video windows. But even then you would want to stay with 1080p as you wouldn't want the text too small to read.

Who would have a screen big enough to see the difference.

I still use 480p for my home theatre and it is more than good enough.

Waste of time until they develop cheap, mass-produced/mass-distributed 4k content.
I run Blu-Ray into an old Sony PX40 - letterboxed, resulting in a 1024x576 16:9 image on a 9' screen and it looks marvelous at home, especially after a few beers :)
I can't see the pixels at normal viewing distances, and I'm a pixel-peeper.
I just don't see the point of 4k for movie viewing on screens smaller than 20 feet and NOBODY has a screen that big at home.
Now, 4k could be very cool for non-movie viewing, especially for picture-in-picture applications and web-viewing.

There are still a few folks around with more money than sense; who have to have the newest, biggest and fastest and will want this for their homes. What I like is that it is the first in a new class and I don't think that Sony would be building something like this if they didn't see a market growing for 4k consumer projection. Maybe will see 4k rolled out faster than we all thought. Shoot, we see cameras now costing $1000.00 or there abouts that can make images that just 10 years ago would be the envy of cameras costing $100,000.00 or more. Who knows what is just right around the corner. Maybe 4K.

I would expect they will also aim for people who own or will get cameras with resolutions higher than 1080p. It'll be a great way to see the footage they shot. I guess it wont be surprising if we see 4K Blu-Ray players next year although it'll most likely be in the 4 figures if that were to happen.

Anyway, it wasn't until last year that I finally got a 1080p TV for crying out loud.
