Sony A9 - Not video friendly?!

I've been looking through the Sony cameras and have been looking forward to the new Sony a9, but now that I see that it is not good for video use, Im not finding that Im interested in it anymore.

I couldn't decide whether to get the A7II, A7SII, or the A7RII as I would be doing both photography and video, which is why I thought the a9 would be the best of both worlds, like the Canon 1dXII...
But... apparently not?

It's not worth getting is it? If I will be doing 50-50% photo & video.

*SIGH* Now what?

It depends on what sort of photography and what sort of a video (duh, you say).

But, generally speaking with a lens neutral profile, GH5, D500, 5DMIIV or, if you own a bunch of Sony glass, those you have mentioned and maybe A99II and A6500.

If you're doing sports photography, then maybe the A9 would make sense for the 20fps speed, but if you're doing more traditional photography and video, then the A7R2 would probably make more sense for the better auto focus during video, and better dynamic range of the photos, along with the bump in resolution.

All depends on what you are trying to shoot. All tools work better for certain tasks.

the A9 will crush the A7R2 in AF accuracy and speed for both video and photography. I do a mix of both and am using A7r2s and A6500. Thinking about going to the A9 myself for the improvements over the A7r2. 24mp is plenty of weddings.

The speed isn't important to me.
But having more than 5fps would be better, but not a big deal... Unless I start doing more wildlife photography (But not anytime soon).

I don't own any gear.
I've been with Canon the whole time but I sold everything! I was shooting cropped and I want to go full frame now.

The A7RII seems to be a better option over the A7SII as I would be doing a lot of photography, but video options are somewhat limited, arent they?

I just assumed that the A9 would be the best of both worlds, better photos and videos.
- Photo wise, its good enough. But, for video? It doesnt seem to be

All the a9 is missing is S-Log2/3 (and the other picture profiles if one prefers those). If you require an image (video) with the most DR possible then it's definitely not the right camera, but that's the only thing that's different in terms of video. The resolutions/framerates, bit rate, and color sampling are still the same compared to the best available specs that are currently offered from a Sony mirrorless.

The a9 should have really nice super-sampled 4K coming from a 6K sensor in both full-frame and APS-C, and it also still has 1080/120p, which looks a bit improved from some samples I've seen online, but can't confirm.

I'm predicting the a9 will most likely have the sharpest 4K and the smartest video auto-focus out of any Sony mirrorless camera so far.

Ironically, either of the two competitors' flagships for photography - 1DX Mark II and a9 - do not have LOG.

5D Mark IVs will start shipping with C-Log in 2 months for an additional $99 (if one would like that feature with their camera).

EDIT: Grammatical Error

Sony Alpha Rumors picked up the info off the B&H product chat that A9 will have S-log available in the future.

I flagged the statement as inaccurate. (the fat finger syndrome)

As a member of Sony Pro Services, I was able to have an A9 sent to me for evail. Today they notified me it should arrive tomorrow. I own an FS7, A99II, A7S, A7SII and an FS700 currently (the A99II is currently listed for sale on eBay, however.) I don't have a ton of time to make an exhaustive test video... but I do intend to compare it against the A7SII and the FS7 in some capacity. Of course, if it overheats on me, all the quality in the world won't make it worth buying for video. So I very much intend to shoot a lot with it to see if it breaks.
