Sony A7SIII = $3500, 10-bit 4K120p internal, 16-bit 4K60p RAW out

These claims are all over the place and they usually don't mean much. They also claimed 15 stops for the original a7S and it was laughable (it was never clear if they meant video or raw stills, but it was laughable on both sides). I do expect this to be on par with the FS7 or very close to that, but just based on me guessing it's about time... XD

oh wow
but let me see the price first, f/1.0 lenses are usually E X P E N S I V E ! ! ! ! ! !

Not sure if it's true, but the number $1,695.00 has been mentioned here and there on the rumor sites?

Specs look appealing but the rumored price of $4,000 Euro seems quite high imho. Not many will consider this a viable stills camera so it is pretty much a video use camera. For $4,000 "everything is new" maybe should have included a revolutionary video use design... I do not know what price would entice me, but not $4,000. It will be interesting to see the hoped for GH6 specs and the ensuing battle royal between the R6, A7sIII and GH6. Personally, I do not care if the thing can see in the dark as long as it is clean up to ISO 6400. I don't consider the GH5 a first choice stills camera, so the $2,000 price is more agreeable for video only.

1695! I never saw a rumored price that low.

I'd be shocked if the A7SIII doesn't debut between $3000-3500

Samuel and I were talking about the upcoming Fuji XF50mm f/1.0 lens as far as price. Not the A7 SIII. That's what happens to threads before specs and release date, we all get side tracked
and start talking other gear in the same thread. Always happens here. Tomorrow, this thread will explode and none of us will be talking about Fuji lenses.

I always hated the A7s, the colors suck, and 4:2:0 at 100mbps is a joke for 2020. However, the S-Cinetone on the FX9 I shot with was superb and very usable. Still not as nice as my Canon and Fuji colors but pretty close. A7 SIII w 4:2:2 10-bit at 600 mbps looks exciting to me and I am not a Sony person.

You took the words right out of my mouth.

Of course, the proof is in the pudding. Gotta see footage. It will be hard to outdo the R5 IQ. (But not hard to outlast it.)

A small part of me is holding out hope that the Tilta fan will work magic and let the R5 record indefinitely. But even if it did and wasn't really loud, I don't need to have any producers asking me, "isn't that the camera that overheats like crazy?"

I'll tell you what got me interested. The rumor sites say that the menus system has changed. YAYYYYYYYY.

Sony. Menus. Oooof. So, so terrible. The FX9 supposedly improved menus were still really terrible. All of the A7 variant menus are a hot mess. A lot of people bag on the Fuji menus on the X-T3 but they are
a breeze compared to Sony. The Canon menus are downright understandable and actually make sense, they are pretty good. Sony can only go up from where the menu design is currently. So massively
confusing, even for those of us who have been shooting Sony cameras for decades.

Agreed. That being said. I would happily deal with old sony menus on an R5 that doesn't overheat! The best menus in the world are worthless if the footage looks bad

The camera isn't so much crippled as it is underspecced. (is that a word?) But it does check a lot of the boxes in the "good enough for 2020" category. It really should have been 6K like Z6 and S1H. Alas.

Yeah that's why I didn't buy an Alexa LF. Only 4.5K? HARD PASS! Does anyone even shoot with that?

The only spec I care about right now is "unlimited recording"

Pocket6K is $2,000, can record to an external SSD and includes a free copy of Resolve.

So, 4K for $3,500 + expensive CFexpress A cards asks a hefty premium for its auto focus.

PS. You should buy Alexa LF. I hear it's Netflix approved.

Do you want to split one with me

Re:AF - "listen lady, if you want your shot IN FOCUS that's gonna cost you extra."

You only need CFexpress A for like 10-bit 120p and maybe 60p. I will buy one later. Hopefully they'll eventually be cheaper than type B?

If I get this camera I may honestly invest in a shogun 7 and record high speed that way because the 16-bit raw out that I've seen from other sony cameras looks great. 12-bit ProRes raw yes please

Remember the menu on the D600? Since it was one of the first DSP cameras with a ‘paint menu’, the menu system was a bajillion pages deep AND you could only advance through it linearly with a click switch. There was no bi-directional scrolling with a rotary encoder. If you went past the page you needed, you had to circle all the way back around. If I had a dollar for every time I clicked that menu advance switch, I could have retired 20 years ago.
