Sony a33/a55/a569/a580 disaster

Well, having worked for what was the largest computer magazine in the UK at the time and the fact that they made 95% of their income from advertising, it's not as far fetched as you'd think, especially as the magazine sold for £3.95 despite all the ads. Truth be told I think there were more sales and administrative staff at the publisher than actual journalists...

You'd also be surprised how many freelance journalist there are, all looking for work which makes it a lot harder to find work that actually pays decent money for the time you put in to it.

Anyhow, this is utterly and completely off topic now :p

What I do hope is that communities like this and keen enthusiasts like yourself will have a long term impact on the hardware makers. Sadly most of them are so protective of their intellectual properties that they'd rather sue than embrace the kind of work you do. I really am amazed that Panasonic have let you get away with it for as long as you have without issuing all sorts of nasty letters from their lawyers...

How we can change it?
Solution is quite simple - press must be prevented to make ANY money from advertisements and get them from subscribers only. Consequences of this will be quite dramatic.
I am quite sure this is not possible. Not in the Western world anyway. Everyone runs their own business their own way.

One, who wants change, can always set up his/her own "press outlet," which is quite easy in the Internet age. The challenge will be building up enough readership and reputation to be a player. This is a grand challenge, because "market" for the most part (by numbers) is composed of "average" Joes who for the most part want average solutions -- they don't need to be worse or better than what Jane has. There are degrees of variation of course, determined by the size of one's wallet and then there are largely niche markets.

whoa , I guess all of the professional photography reviewers got it wrong - reminds me of the story of two mothers watching their kids in a parade and one says to the other , look my sonny is the only one marching in step ! Please this is bullxxxx - shoot manual, shot a priority mode, learn photography and don´t judge a cameras photo potential by using auto ! that´s simply absurd !

a55 vs a330

a55 vs a330

a55 (DSLT) shoots at exactly the same shutter speeds as a330 (DSLR) @ same iso as long as the subject & entire frame are the same.

Obviously whatever sony has done to compensate for the "1/3 stop" light loss is transparent to the end user who will not observe higher isos or slower shutter speeds.

here are 2 samples with their metadata. Both shots were hand held, iso (@100) was manually chosen while aperture (@2.8) & shutter speed (@2.5sec) were chosen by the cameras. The light comes from a small incandescent yellow lamp on a desk nearby. The a55 shot is blurred due to camera shake. Metering mode was in both cases "multi segment" and AF area was chosen to be "[ ] (wide)". Both cameras were set on program P. Lens used was a Tamron 17-50mm 2.8 @ 17mm
