Sony ‎α7S II and C mount lens in 2.2x crop mode

Hi! I was wondering if I can use a wide C mount lens which was made for M4/3 on the Sony ‎α7S II to get a wider image when shooting in 2.2x crop mode (100fps).
Does anybody know if this works?

Yes you can :)

I recently started experimenting with the A7SII, love the slow mo feature, so I wanted to check some wider options from my m43 purposed lenses, since they are made for a crop of approx. x1.8-2.

Btw, there is a m43 to E mount adapter sold on Ebay pretty cheap, not bad at all. I bought one to fit on my pricey m43 adapters (PL, Arri B, Leica R) and actually works great, despite the flimsy look, I'm going to order more. It's a tight fit, in a good way, and is so slim it's practically not there. C mount adapters to E mount can be had for pretty cheap, so you're set.

Concerning the lenses I've tested, I checked the Voigtlander 25mm 0.95 a friend has, and it covered with no problem. I even went as far as using a S16 Arri Zeiss 12mm MK3 Superspeed T1.3, a lens with slightly smaller image circle than the m43 lenses, and it covered in 2.35:1, having slightly dark corners in 16:9 (I had to punch in resolve about 8-9% to get rid of it). I also mounted the 14mm pancake and it covered.

What's interesting though, is that I tried a couple S35 Zeiss Standard Speeds, and they are pretty useable in 4K. The 16mm needed x1.4 clear zoom, while the 40mm just x1.1 to get rid of a slight vignette. The 16mm is also useful for slow mo and obviously covers the 2.2 crop.

C mount lenses should be fun to use due to their small size.

So when you used the Voigtlander 25mm in 2.2x crop mode, it was only around 25mm?
No more crop when you use lenses made for m43?

Not sure I understand what you're asking.

The Voigtlander is a prime lens, you can only use it as a 25mm.

There is always a x2.2 crop when shooting 120fps. I didn't try it on other modes (FF or APS-C).

A 25mm lens is a 25mm lens, no matter what the crop is.

Using a 25mm lens that was originally made for FF in 2.2x crop mode results in an actual focal length of 55mm. I was wondering if this would be different if I use a lens that was originally made for a much smaller sensor like a M43... means, would I get a wider field of view in 2.2x crop mode when I would use a lens that was originally made for a M43 sensor?

Forums leave a lot of room for miscommunication. And if I'm not misunderstanding you, I think you might be confusing "Focal Length" with "Field of View". If you replaced the term Focal Length, with Field of View you'd be correct, dstruning. But as jpblack has stated, Focal Length does not change with sensors of different size.

So let's talk about FOV here...

Lol, that's why I said "A 25mm lens is a 25mm lens, no matter what the crop is", tried to prevent going into this discussion :)

@dstruning, concerning your question, no, a m43 25mm doesn't have a different angle of view than a 25mm FF lens.

There is already lot's of info about this on this forum, so searching here should be a good resource.

So yeah, just search crop factor on the forum, should probably turn up some good info.
