Sonnet E4P e-sata card firmware warning

I'm not even sure where to begin posting this information. My goal is to prevent another user, company, etc. who is relying heavily on their data storage, from going through the same ordeal we have in the last few days.

First off, do not upgrade a Sonnet e4p firmware. The E4P is a 4 port e-sata interface via pci on a Quad-core G5. we've been using this in combination with the G-Tech Raid drives (1 tera) capacity.

This weekend we upgraded to Leopard 10.5 and it went very smoothly. We also took the initiative since we were at a good point project-wise to update our firmware on the Sonnet card.

In so doing, their firmware (not in beta, mind you) introduces a catastrophic RAID failure to your RAID 1 devices. It renders one of the slices of your RAID 1 drive completely degraded. This has occurred on 2 of our drives. The kicker is that the third drive we're using with some of our very time-sensitive and important program material has been rendered completely unusable.

Emails to Sonnet's tech support have been met with a non-chalant approach. They confirm their knowledge of the bug, yet treat it as if we were using a beta of the software. They have been unwilling to assist and indicate a fix is coming within 2-3 weeks.

Luckily, G-Tech has always offered outstanding support and offered to take a look at our drive that completely failed, even though it was not an incident of hardware or part failure.

If you would like additional information regarding this issue, please respond and I will provide further information. My frustration level is very high with Sonnet. I am considering what my options are since they've put our company in this position. It seems inexcusable that such a problem exists and they have yet to post information on their website regarding it to warn the user that they may encounter an issue.

If you have suggestions as to how to address them to create results, I'm all ears. It is my belief that if it comes to us sending our drives to a data recovery center, they should compensate us at the very least for this ordeal. I'm remaining patient until I hear back from G-Tech, later this week.

Good luck out there - careful when applying firmware updates.
