Something new discovered!

That's it! But its a workaround and a worry not to be able to use the wheel in case of critical failure. What can we do about it since they're unlikely to issue a recall and if we wait to fail we've lost a filming day... Oh dear.

I'm wondering if I've misunderstood the OP. Does the failure of the jog/shuttle render the camera useless because the screen is stuck and can't be reset, OR is it that the jog/shuttle becomes useless but the shoot can continue using the touch screen to clear and then for other settings?

If the latter, not so disastrous as survivable until a repair can be effected.

I'm grateful for all the help.

Hi Gordoni,

Pretty much the 2nd option. The jog/shuttle becomes useless, which for long stage shoots, makes the camera pretty much useless, but if you are setting up shots you could get away with using it.

My camera is still not fixed yet, no further news about the "replacement menu dial switch block" arriving from Japan.

Your post reminds me that I have to reserve a hire unit for this weekend, as I have 4 concerts to film and no camera!

Cheers,

Vaughan

Thank you Vaughan, your help is much appreciated.
I've just used the camera 'in anger' for the first time. Some lovely shots but also some low-light issues so I really want to get to grips with it.

Please explain...?
Noise apparent in low light shooting.
Filming in the House of Commons vestibule area with no natural light and only a small LED light on the camera. This was fine for CUs but long shots are noisy.
Auto exposure, Scene 5.
I would go for LOG next time, or scene 1 gives a less noisy result.

According to Panasonic , the new Jog Dial is Improved in durability.
According to Technical Bulletin :

Symptom: Jog dial & button does not function at all, or not work smoothly.

Cause:Printed pattern on the flat-cable in the dial part was disconnected by cracking, which may be notably happened in low ambient temperature of approximately 0°C / 32°F or lower.

Remedy: Improved durability of the cable by employing more flexible material

We can expect the new stock is already there with respective Panasonic SVC's so replacement time should be quick.

Thanks

I have found out something new about Panasonic's operating system.

When your DVX 200 "sel/push set" button decides it doesn't want to scroll anymore you are completely screwed!

Just stuck with 'Icon" setting and can't access other functions and such variable WB or gain.

Oh well, lucky that my invoice is dated 27/10/15, I am one week within the warranty!

Cheers,

Vaughan
