For some reason i get thsi funny feelingmy DVX is putting out a Softer image than it should.

I shot these acouple weeks ago, Detail level isnt to low. -1.

i focused using the view finder detail thing. as best i could, bu they still look soft.

what cha think? does it look unreasonably soft to you guys?

Squeeze mode, almost no CC. i think the second one has a little bit of contrast.

yeah, it does look soft.....have you cleaned your lens lately? there may be a slight haze on it from sudden temperature change.

nah its spotless. im a freak about clean optics. i took DVXoutof box, and put 72 mm UV filter and have never taken it of since. and the uv filter is totally clean. no problems there.

hmmm......well, i know that when i screw my 72mm threaded lenses on mine it doesn't make a perfectly sharp picture.....i don't really use them anymore.

interesting... will perform a test.... butwhat ifthat exposes my precious lens to air water dirt flying bats and the occasional comet!

jkjk

sound theory dude.

will try.

Are you sure its a UV filter, not a Pro Mist filter?LOL When you put glass in front of glass you will always get a softer image. Try shooting without the UV.

...And if that doesn't work give Panasonic a phone call.

I doubt it's the filters. It just is out of foucs.

Next time; use a 3 X 5 card with text on it. I put one of these up and focus at where my subject is to dial it in. It helps me stay crisp

These (2) shots have an ND Filter, Polorizer and UV in front of the lens... (And the compression on this is horrible at that)

No problem

Anything will work. I've used Newspapers, magazine covers... whatever you can use to get a supercrisp focus

Thanks john.

it may just be slightly out of focus.

the EVDTL i guess isnt to be trusted.

If you are focusing though the viewfinder you might have bumbed the dial on the side which would make it impossible to focus correctly. Try using the fold out LCD with Hudson's idea. I kinda like the look you have going. The extra grain makes it mimic 16mm a little. Now that I think of it you might have bumped the gain switch as well which adds noise and might make it look out of focus. Hope it helps.

If you have some extra $ and a decent laptop around, try out DV rack. Pretty nice piece of software. Played with it a little and it is something definately worth looking into. Think it retails for $250-300. Will help you with focus, white balance, etc, plus record directly to hard drive. Cheers.

No accidental gain. lol, i am not that inept! haha

nono, i actually like Cine gamma D and Cine Matrix. a little grain never hurt.
But i just got a BADASS laptop, so i actually am thinking of DVrack. Tape less sounds good.

Odd. I can only see your third picture. The other three say "imagehosting.us - file traffic over"
