Something doesn't add up.

If a thread is deleted, it might be a good idea to delete all posts and replace them with a quick reson for deletion, then lock the thread. This way it doesn't just mysteriously disappear and the reason for deletion is clear to everyone as a learning experience. My 2c

That might help avoid some of the X-Files conspiracy plot theories from evolving.

There's a half-baked idea for someone's Sci-Fi Fest entry... :)

wow...i bet pookie had no idea his thread would have turned inito this.

haha

further offsetting the numbers of his orignal post.

But it would just spawn more threads like this... where people feel the need to discuss the deletion and/or banning. I'm pretty sure that's something the mods would prefer to avoid.

I see nothing wrong with the current way things are handled.
It's cleaner and keeps things on topic.
As John said, it's their house.

We're just house guests.

hell i've deleted my own after i read it...naw that shouldn't be said..delete! sometimes we should keep our mental masturbation to ourselves....should i delete? aww i'll leave it up to you

My first post ever got deleted today.

While it had no actual porn in it - it did have the word "porn".

I feel so dirty.

Chris

p.s. I'm not complaining mind you, I fully respect the mod's and there need to keep things clean around here. I was just surprised.

I'm just curious to know, do the Mods keep a record of how many people have been banned on the site, and How do u get yourself banned, is there a method, like a 3 strike rule or what? I'm just curious to know how many people you guys banned a week/month/year. This site is cool, it would be a ***** to be banned from here, lot's of information and resources.

10,000 members WOW!!! that's a lot, I wonder if the members all have dvx's if so, Panasonic is paid. And just curious, Jarred must get paid for this site right?(advertisement) It has to cost money to keep this site running. Ok too many questions, but if someone can answer the one about Getting banned, I'd be happy with that.

Jarred gets no money from advertising for running DVXuser. He's paying out of pocket to maintain this behemoth.

That's what happened to me. Almost exactly.

Again. No biggie. But this thread is like a car wreck. I keep slowing down to take a peak.

Well "my" point is, when a perfectly legit and productive thread is deleted for no apparent reason and no explanation, the thread starter is left to edit together their own reason why it was deleted. Whether that fathomable reason is rational or not. If thread was deleted in an irrational way you have no choice but to come up with an irrational reason as to why.
No big deal though, didnt mention it untill now. Only because this is the place and thread to do it.

Banning is not a common occurrence at all. The only "frequent" bannings that happen is when some nimrod registers here and starts throwing out spam and insults -- those guys will get blasted the first day they're here. But if you've been here a while, it usually requires some significant action to get yourself banned. Typically there will be warnings sent via private messages, and often there will be a temporary ban before any ban is made permanent.

We're drafting a statement of policies now, so people will be more aware of the type of conduct that's appropriate and the kind that isn't.

This site is cool, it would be a ***** to be banned from here, lot's of information and resources.
If, in general, you behave respectfully, you have nothing to fear. If you go around degrading everyone and insulting people and starting flame/troll wars and starting political fights and posting offensive pictures and howling about "censorship" and "free speech" and using the site as your own personal vehicle to launch your own crusades and overall in general behaving in an unpleasant way that, if you were doing it in someone's house it would get you thrown out of a reasonable person's living room, then yes, you can expect a warning or, depending on how out-of-line the mods feel you've been, there are cases where an instant banning has happened and could be justified again.

If your whole point in being here is to engage in juvenile talk and to spew drivel and profanity and clog the board up with pointless messages, you may be hearing from the mods. This isn't a chat room, after all. Fun is fun, and not everything has to be on-topic, but -- seriously, let's keep it a little within reason, right? The board grew great from a lot of people helping other people, all focused around some common point of interest. We don't want to lose the unique identity and theme of DVXUser due to being overwhelmed with chatroom-level stuff. Let's stay on course, continue to behave like professionals and friends, and be respectful and helpful to each other, and the site will continue to prosper and the community will thrive.

And just curious, Jarred must get paid for this site right?(advertisement) It has to cost money to keep this site running. Ok too many questions, but if someone can answer the one about Getting banned, I'd be happy with that.
This site costs Jarred a lot of money in bandwidth and server fees, and that's why you see banner ads at the upper right corner now, to defray that. But it is a private entrepreneurial effort from Jarred's company, Zoomforce Media. It's not owned, paid for, sponsored or controlled by Panasonic (or any other manufacturer), although it should be noted that Panasonic has been kind enough to donate prizes for the DVX Fest (as have many other excellent companies, such as EVS and Overland and CineTactics and others).

Actually, you DID mention it before ... I think in the Vegas section, because I specifically remember giving you a response about it. Sounds like you're still fairly bitter about the whole thing.

Holy crap, I wonder if I'm getting close to being banned then? I actually rec'd THREE warnings from Jarred about having an animated avatar, which is apparently a no-no ... for whatever reason, it didn't sink in until the 3rd warning, and I know he wasn't thrilled about it.

Top that off with the fact that I think one of the mod's hates me, I'm thinking my days are probably numbered.

Yeah, bandwidth isn't cheap, especially with as much volume as I'm sure this site produces. I'm planning on purchasing banner space for my duplication company on here in the near future, but should probably wait a while now and make sure I'm a survivor on this forum.

Personally, I post in the other stuff for than the Cafe, and have never started a thread in it. I'd imagine, that's the section the Mods have to police the most.

Uh no, you're wrong.
