Someone check me before I clear my CF card...

Hey guys,
Just wrapped my first day's shooting on the first day to ever use my 7d on anything other than test footage. I have about 80 clips on this card. I drug the .mov files to my desktop in a new folder. Is that good? Have I disconnected any sort of order or anything like that? Am I good to clear the card now?
At some point I will have to move this over to an external hard drive from my desktop. I ordered a 500GB passport studio today but until that comes in they will rest on my desktop of my mac. Once that comes in, is there anything I need to know or do to make the move?
thanks
jared

All you have to do is drag the clips onto your hard drive and you should be good to go. I just always make sure I have a backup before formatting the card.

You should look into using mpeg streamclip to transcode the footage though. I actually can't even playback the h.264 files on my computer unless I transcode them to pro res or xdcam.

really? well i haven't watched much but so far the 3 i have watched play fine but they are very short clips. i am using isquint right now so i can watch them on my tv, but i will start the pro res transcode when i go to bed tonight...

My computer is an older g5, which I guess explains the problems, but it just shows you how intensive the h.264 codec is and how necessary the transcoding is.

When using XDCAM they have applications that check your clips to ensure the transfer from card to hard drive was successful, I have not seen anything like that for H.264.

So what you can do to help ease your mind is drag and drop the DCIM folder from the Card to the Hard Drive, once the transfer is complete do a "get info" on both folders and they should match EXACTLY. The size, number of items, and the number of bits used should match.
