Somebody saw Watchmen too many times...

It sounds like the D&D set is getting bored. In most places, it is illegal to wear a mask in Public, and handcuffing somebody would constitute false arrest, since you can press charges as a citizen, but can't hold somebody prisoner.

It also reminds me of some kid posting on Craigslist, looking for a camera man to follow him as he fights crime.

What's problematic with this is that it's not so much the thought behind it, but rather the execution that makes it so laughable.

I mean honestly, most superheroes are heroes because they have powers. They have better looking costumes, and either some work with the law or some work not caring about the laws. This instill fear into criminals.

Now translate this into real life, and you've got some average guy that's wearing a not so cool costume, no real ability to make arrests (not to mention he can get arrested for arresting the wrong person) and... we'll he doesn't scare criminals.

To really do what he wants to do he should just not wear a silly costume or call himself anything.

It's simply a case of that real life role playing getting out of hand into dangerous waters.

If I were to do that, I would probably buy a bullet proof vest, wear comando slacks, learn some parkour and street wise martial arts, wear a regular mask (not some silly wrestlers mask), work at night and stay out of the spotlight and media to not get arrested for what I'm doing. I would try and stay on the roof tops if possible. I would also carry around a mini camcorder, film the event hapenning. I would simply handcuff the perp to some pipe and call the cops and get the hell out of there. Or handcuff him to a rail in front of a police station. Leave the tape with the perp. Voila-

This gives me an idea...

You've thought this out WAY too clearly.

LOL! YES! Rock on man...

In the second link that guy looks like he should be a grime fighter by using those pipe-cleaners he calls arms to keep our toilets free flushing. (At least work out for six months dude.)

By the title of this thread I thought some dude was walking around flailing a limp blue lightsaber.

I'm willing to bet as this movement gets bigger people will become more active and more trained. I had a conversation with a friend of mine years ago about what it would take to do something like this and was it really possible. I believed that people would indeed start taking to the streets as heroes. It's happening. It's insane but happening. I went to the registry and these guys are indeed serious. And if we have superheroes I bet super villains will pop up too. Is the guy crazy? Probably, but then again we did have the Guardian Angels. While they were a little more trained they weren't cops.

This reminds me of a comic I was reading the summary to a few days ago. It is called Kick Ass. I think that there is going to be a film version coming out in the next year or two.

It seems that you've thought this out much better than these so called real life super heroes. I mean look at Batman or The Punisher. They don't have supernatural powers, just training, tech, and weapons. And Batman has Bruce Wayne's fortunes as well. Or for example, someone like Charles Bronson in Death Wish. Yes he is a vigilante, but in the real world I don't think I'd attempt super hero work without training and at least carry a gun, just in case. Even if I had ninja skillz like Batman.

And as for someone like Bronson in Death Wish, he didn't wear a silly costume. You would gain much more by being able to blend into the crowd and not call attention to yourself. Who knows, you might have to evade the cops too.

I give him props for making the effort and for wanting to help people. Who knows, maybe he will actually work out and learn kung fu and become a bad ass.

You know what Nate, I think that this could happen. It will have weird mundane qualities to it that will make it so unlike the comic books, but I think it could happen.

And in a sense, we've already had super villains. Hitler, Saddam, Kim Jong Eel (the Eel would be his super villain alias). Hitler could've been The Mustache, Saddam would have been Saddam Insane. How about Pablo Escobar as White Powder?

The main difference would be that these street level superheroes won't take on the big super villains, the military is who deals with them using their own type of superheroes in the form of Navy Seals and Airborne Rangers. Plus, they're already working on powered exoskeletons, so eventually we might have a real Iron Man and the Master Chief from Halo. Although, there could still be villains like The Joker that could cause problems on a city wide scale. Especially if he has some henchmen to help.

What I want to know is, when are the Japanese going to build a real life Anime-style super mecha army?

What I want to know is, when are we going to get a real life superhero that walks around exposing a big blue dong to the world?

Bahaha! The saga continues...
