Some stills from a music video.

Directed a music video for a artist called Chris Michols a week ago and just wanted to share some stills from the video. I have to wait for some animations before the video is finished but then of course it will be posted here as well.

Shot with the GH1 with cheap Nikon-primes and the kit lens, 1080 and I think all shots were at ISO 200. No CC just resized. Over all I´m very satisfied with the GH1 except some dropped frames (this just seems to happen in 1080 mode, don´t know why) and the lack of good compression when it comes to complex situations such as trees.

looks very good..the only one i dont like is the first shot, was that the kit lens?
regarding grading?are you planing to keep the sky white like that, or are you going to try to give it more character? and if yes, how would you guys grade this type of cloudy plain white sky ?that type of overcast look sky has giving me problems grading in vegas...
again looks good to me...

Yeah you would need a grad filter I think to get what you are talking about. That way you can properly expose both areas and not get blown out sky which grading hates.

Hej guva, ser bra ut.

Dropped frames? Please explain. I think I have seen that on some of my footage as well.

Looking forward to the final cut with CC. Lycka till.

Actually the first one is with my favourite lens, a Nikon 28 2.8. It is in the middle of a dolly and I think when you see the smooth movement it will look pretty good. About the sky I don´t think I can do much about it in post, It just has to be white as it was.

Tack för det. If you give me a day I will pick some of the shots with dropped frames and upload them, it´s actually pretty wierd, it just jumps like two frames ahead.

Congratulations! I figured this was going to be good. You're ballroom dancing clip was an early example of how good the GH1 could look.

This is very creative and excellent in so many ways. The visuals you picked for the sense of isolation, sadness and loneliness were perfect. Actually thought the white/gray sky helped lend a sense of blandness and contributed to the sparseness. Wasn't so sure the animation was working for me at first, but it was interwoven very nicely as it went along and worked really well. The juxtaposition of the animation with reality further enhanced the sense of isolation. Had you used a real character/location for those shots the effect would have been totally different and not nearly as effective in communicating the flatness of the mood.

Really liked the tossing of the coins and the slight acknowledgment in return. Tied it all together.

Nice job on grading too. You should be happy with this.

Great job. I too liked your use of animation. Very simple, but was in keeping with the
simplicity of the video. All the elements complimented each other very well.

I did have a question about the sound dubbing. When he begins to sing at 00.24
the quality of the recording was very jarring in comparison to the setting.

I want to be sure to make myself clear. It's not that the sound was poor (it was
excellent in fact) it just didn't seem to fit with the outdoor setting, since up to that
point the we had been hearing the breeze.

My thought would have been to eliminate the breeze and just have the music
play as be walks to the piano, then go to the studio recording of the song.

Either that or perhaps remix it somehow, so the studio recording blends better
with the outdoor ambiance.

Am I completely out to lunch here? I'm freely willing to admit I am :)

No you are not completely wrong here but I tested several other ways and for me this way was the way to go, but several other people have made almost exactly the same complaints as you :)

To all others! Thank you and especially to tflak who described my first synopsis almost exactly, almost a bit spooky.

Thanks for the acknowledgment. I really did enjoy the video as a whole.

Looking forward to seeing your next project.
