Some specs leaked - Nikon 3100

Whatever. Nikon is a joke in dslr territory. And I say that as someone with a lot of Nikon gear (D300, lenses and so on). Way to go Nikon - first pioneer the field, then totally drop the ball.

Face it, Nikon has not only been left behind, they've been lapped - multiple times. They're dead last from the major cam companies.

They'd have to really hit a moonshot to have anyone pay attention to them. Merely being an also-ran isn't going to cut it - a pity, since I have Nikon lenses I could use.

But personally, I've given up on Nikon for motion cameras. It's Panny all the way, with Canon a possibility.

Re wind your mind

1999

Canon has the only digital DSLR on the market $25000

Two years late the D1 came out $8000 and way better

We had two years of shall I drop nikon chat

2005 nikon are mincing about with 4mpAPS while canon have 12mp FF

We had two years of shall I drop nikon chat

Nikon comes out with the D3, knocks all canons out of the water

2008 Canon comes out with a half decent motion DSLR

We then have two years of shall I drop nikon chat

lets see

It is silly to say that Nikon can't effectively enter the HD video market simply because they haven't done so yet. All it takes it the next leap in design/technology on the Nikon side and people will forget that Canon is the only player. As has oft been repeated here, Nikon has every incentive to make their video features the best since they have no high-end video camera line that they will hurt.

Nikon is big, and may take a while to respond, but when they do there is no reason to suspect that they won't potentially have the best answer on the market.

Let's have this discussion again in a year-if there is still no Nikon response to the 7d/5d then I may be willing to concede that they just 'don't get it'. But I see no advantage to that 'strategy' for them-it is lose/lose, and they are not a stupid company.

Oh they will. But only people with even only a small dose of common sense and true vision will understand that. People will never grasp the notion that products are not created out of thin air by a magician. The whole HDSLR market and products is still in its infancy. Great progress has been made but there still much more to go. Nikon has a very big stake in the future of this segment. They got very big in the camera business for a reason. They will continue laughing all the way to the bank, there is no doubt about that. And whoever doesn't understand that shouldn't be in the image making business.
