Some road trip stills

Hey everyone. I recently went on a road trip from my home in Long Beach, CA up north to San Francisco. Along the way, I got a good 2 hours of footage. I was able to edit something up, but since I have no host (hint hint) and the smallest file I could make with decent quality was 45 mb, then for now I shall post some screen grabs. The editing was done in FCP with some slight color correction (although the stills look far different than the video correction when they saved... oddly enough) to give the footage some more spice. Anyway, let me know what you think of these, I'm still fairly new with both the color correction and the DVX, so send me your thoughts, criticism and praise are both welcome. Thanks guys!

This was a random pit stop on the way home along Highway 5. For those unfamiliar with the road, this is pretty much all you see everywhere for maybe 6 hours.

This was part of a random cove we found along highway 1

These elephant seals were massive and all over the place up around the Hearst Castle area in "mid" california.

This is my friend Evan balancing on the train tracks. I really liked how this one ended up turning out.

Well this was scary. I'm sure everyone can guess how this was achieved. I wouldn't really recommend holding your DVX out the window at 60+ mph, but it turned out pretty cool nonetheless. The ever interesting highway 5 shows up again.

Same type of shot, this one is on the Bay Bridge in San Francisco

And here I am. neat.

love the look.. nice composition :)

get some footage up on utube if you're desperate :)

I really like the first, fourth and last one. The reflection on the second to last one is awesome, it makes it seem like the car isn't even there.
Yeah, I'd love to see some footage from this, especially with you holding your precious DVX out of the car window.

All the color correction was done using the FCP color correction tools, mostly shifting to a reddish-yellowish look for a warm effect. Mostly just me tooling around to be honest.

Used a DVX-100 (non-A or B version)
Detail Level: -4
Chroma Level: 0
Chroma Phase: 0
Color Temp: 0
Master Ped: -15
A. Iris Level: 0
Gamma: Cine-Like
Skin Tone DTL: On
Matrix: Cine-Like
V. Detail Freq.: Thin
24p

-Shutter speed varied between shots but was usually at 60 or higher.
-Iris was also constantly changing as well, so it's hard to even guess on that one
-ND Filters used on many of the outside shots due to the immense brightness during the mid day (especially those shots from highway 5)
-About 99.9% of the footage is handheld. Didn't have a tripod I could take along with me so unless I found a level surface to rest it on (the wooden part of the train tracks for example). At first I was kinda bummed that it would turn out shitty, but in the end, I think it ended up working well for what it is.

Thanks to everyone who has posted so far!

I really like the look of these! Some interesting compositions there. haha, I also have done the "hang the cam out window" shot many times. It works very well as long as you can keep it steady!
