Some Q's about the A1

I'm choosing between buying the XL2 and A1 and I have some questions about the A1...

1. What's the difference between 24P and 24F?
2. Can you shoot in SD or only HDV?
3. Can you change lenses...I saw that they have a wide angle converter--is that just an adapter that gives the effect of wide angle?
4. They make a big deal about the auto focus...you can still focus manually right?
5. I have final cut studio on an imac...can I edit if I shoot HDV?
6. I will be shooting events but mainly shooting music videos/and short films...should I go for this camera?

1) Nothing. In HD the A1 records 24 frames to tape. In SD it records 24p within a 60i stream, with normal or advanced pulldown.
2)SD and HDV
3)No, it's a fixed lens camera. Wide angle is a screw on lens adapter.
4)Yes
5)I don't know.
6)Only you can determine that. But most users are happy with their purchase. I sure am.

Between the XL2 and the A1, I say A1 all the way.

what exactly is a lense adapter?

what exactly is a lense adapter?

does the adapter allow you to add on a wide angle lense, or is the adapter a lense that gives a wide angle look? If it's the first, that would mean that an adapter would allow me to add on different lenses with different focal lengths?

or is the adapter a lense that gives a wide angle look?
It is a lens, it gives you a .75x wider angle of view. There are plenty of adapters that will allow you to use 35mm lenses with the Xh-a1. Do a quick search for 35mm adapters.

You shouldn't have a problem editing with Final Cut Studio 5.1.4 or later. And probably even a few earlier versions.

How much are the lenses

Thanx a lot for the info guys...do you know the price range on the 35mm lenses and adapter?
Also, I saw the A1 was 3200 on one website...does that sound about right?

Not really. It should be $3500 with a $250 rebate. Any less and it's a red flag.

Most 35mm adapters fit for HD are around $1100-1300, with the exception of the Letus Flip ($700). The sky is the limit for lenses and you pretty much get what you pay for with those; expect to spend $200-300 minimum.
