1080p 24 <-- You know how much bandwidth is required for this mode???

I wonder if ALL those modes will be supported by the TAPE, or you'll have to buy a P2 card to do the higher-end stuff, with MiniDV tapes recording just SD resolutions???

What do you all think...

I'm guessing tape will just be for 25mbps SD...but I could be wrong.

Thanks for the pictures, Noah!

I'm missing the Panny event to be up here in my hotel room uploading these pix. :) Here's one more:

Nice, I was hoping for a close-up. Thanks for uploading the pictures when you could be doing other things.

So that's officially confirmed -- it does have a DV tape deck in it.

As for the earlier question "how much bandwidth does 1080/24p use" -- it'll likely be 100 megabits, but might be as low as 80 megabits per second. Not confirmed yet.

Oh, we can wait on the pix... Get us more info!!! Hurry down there and let us know more detailed specs and what the camera has to offer... (Resolution-wise, features-wise, which formats will record to tape, which will only be allowed to record on P2)

what do you guys think about the lens? mechanical zoom? focus?
I wish we had someone reporting from the Panasonic Press Announcement so all our questions would be anwered... Anyone know of a blog elsewhere that has up-to-the-minute info?

With that form factor? I'll bet it's mechanical zoom, and precise manual focus, just like the DVX...

Oh, and I guess this clarifies what Jan was saying earlier, when she said it would be "priced competitive with the Z1"... the Z1 has an MSRP of $5946, the HVX has an MSRP of $5995. I think that could be the best $49 upgrade anyone's ever spent!
