GH2 Some Photography with the GH2!

I've heard people say the GH2 is awful for stills. Some notable. I disagree. A good eye is what you need.
It technically may not have all the 5DMkII specs but it has 'enough' ability to do the job. Its the person behind the cam.
Yes, i would rather have the MkII but to say its incapable is not accurate imo. Here's a shot i took recently in Vegas.
GH2/14-140.

Nice pics. The last shot of the open road is my fav.

I've been shooting nothing but video with my GH-2 and never really thought about using it the way you did here. Nice pics. Thanks for reminding me what this camera is capable of.

Cheers. The beauty of this camera in my opinion is that it's way more portable than a Canon, especially when you start using long lenses. Taking on vacation is a dream, because you get above average stills and great video in one handy little package.

Hi,

basically, I come from the photography scene and only recently discovered my interest in video due to the capabilities of the GH2.

As you can probably guess from the pictures below, I'm a wildlife photographer and was sick and (literaly) tired of lugging my heavy Canon DSLR equipment in the field. So I replaced part of my DSLR gear with the GH2 and some lenses.
For the better part of this year I've used the GH2 to do the job and can only say that I'm very pleased with the results.
My favourite lens is the 100-300 from Panasonic, but I also use some manual focus lenses in the 400 and 500mm range (but not so often, since these are heavy again...).

I can only say, that mFT can do the job, especially with some advanced post processing. I only use my EOS gear when I'm shooting fast action such as flying birds or when I need a fast burst mode.

Enjoy the pictures!

Tom

Here are some still from a promo photoshoot for an MMA fighter. It was the GH2 with the 20mm 1.7
I synced to two flash units with a cable from a flash adapter trigger. I'd like to get some kind of wireless solutions for a little more freedom with these kinds of shoots.

Given a choice I'd rather shoot with a fullframe camera like the 5DMII but the GH2 can get the job done. I also shot a wedding with the GH2 and it did the job fine, but its knowing that your shooting within limitations... like it would be nice if there was a faster zoom in 4/3 like 14-45 2.8

The GH2 works much better than the GH1 in Manual mode as a still camera. The GH1 lacks the GH2's "Constant Preview" menu option, which makes Manual still-frame mode produce a what-you-see-is-what-you-get exposure on the LCD, just as the video modes do on both cameras. In well-illuminated scenes, the GH2 produces brilliant photographs, but its shadow details cannot compete with a Nikon or Canon APS-C camera.

I'm very satisfied with the GH2 for photos. I don't think I will ever use another mirrored dslr again as my everyday photo camera. The future is mirrorless.

It is a shame manual mode has no AF,i know it would not be M mode then but with independant control of iris and shutter its great to take photos while videoing, not being able to take photos in any of the movie modes is a big downer for me,i know other modes allow this but the photos always come out poor for me.
