Some HVX200 frames from compilation..

Here are some stills from the compilation clip I uploaded. Some of you asked for this since the 400mb file is just a bit big for some connections. These are not fancy captures and have some jpeg artifacts since the right way to capture would have taken much longer and I don't have the time to do all that. However these are still good and very much show again the HVX200 is one bitchin small form professional High-def Camcorder.....

Pappas, for me some of those grabs look a little bit too dark... The little 1/3" ccds need a lot of light.... btw> In some shots I've noticed a strange fringe effect...

There was practically no light. It was dark as Shiat! So considering that, it did great!

I shoot slightly under exposed in general. I try to avoid that "Three's Company" Look. Baaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrffffffffffffffff.....

As for CA, no where as bad as my Canon 20X did on my XLH1 or the fuji on my HD100. I have owend all these cameras, and the HVX is the best
overall in the small form professional HD camcorders..........

Understood. As an electrical engineer, I am particularly familiar with the sensitivity of ccd imagers. I was curious as to what precautions, if any, you may have taken
to mitigate the possibility of damage. I want to do some similar takes, but have been hesitant. ND filter? Stop down? Or?

You've decided that the HVX200 is the best of all three cameras, personally?

Are you going to stay with the HVX200?
 
I made my choice based on a scale of points for my needs. When added up the HVX was the best one for my needs.

And yes I am staying with the HVX200.........

I used to believe you could never harm a chip camera by shooting at the sun, until...

I was using a Sony 570 dvcam, with a canon 18x lens, with the 2X tele-extender on,
shooting directly into the sun with an ND, getting funky effects... and I saw what looked like blurry wisps of smoke...
and well, it turned out to be... wisps of smoke!

The 2x extender acted as a kind of magnifying glass, and literally cooked something on the inside of the lens... so the lens had to be replaced.

Sony repaired it and pointed out that in their manual they advise not to shoot directly into the sun. Mind you, I was zooming into the sun, with the 2x telephoto switched on.

I think shooting sunsets with the stock lens is safe. But I'd think twice before zooming in directly on that ball of fire, especially with a telephoto adapter... it is a magnifying glass.

Your sunset shots are absolutly breathtaking.

As for underexposing, I personally tend to avoid it with Panasonic's cameras. The cinelike D and cinelike V give you more lattitude then you expect and the manual actually suggests you overexpose by 1/2 stop. This reduces noise. Still, I won't argue with those images.
 
Gorgeous! I'm floored that this is coming from a 1/3" camera with its stock lens. Indie films in the next few years are gonna look a heck of a lot better on festival screens than the last few years showing SD on MiniDV.

Beautiful sunsets, but I have questions about the edge sharpening that's very evident in some of the shots. Do you know what your Detail level was set at?
 
Thanks everyone. The HVX is one hell of a camera!

The HVX was at 0. I shot in F1 factory with a slight lowering of the master ped.
