Some Hpx250 raw footage

Excellent. Nothing I would call actual jello, and the bending of verticals is extremely mild until that last shot where you go wild. Looking forward to getting hold of the MXF files. Thanks for posting.

Haha, last shot was just a way to match skewing through different focal lengths in a single clip, keeping the same panning speed.
Mainly useful for checking noise in underexposed areas.
I'm still uploading the eight native clips, it takes a lot of time because my internet connection often breaks off.

Hi aalleexx, just checked, the zip files on my PC are ok, the same is for the downloaded ones.
I use 7-Zip to pack-unpack them.
Have you already tried to unzip using this on your Mac?
Let me know.

Hi,
Thank you for posting. I got a question.
Do you find that the images from that camcorder are a bit too much noisy ?
Colors and details are very good and I think i'm gonna buy an HPX 250 but the last test that could decide me in my choice would be a night shot clip. Could you send us a night test, please.

cordially.

I've tested the camera last weekend and in a first moment I was disappointed, because the image was a little blurry. In a second time I've discovered that this camera, whan used in progressive, has normally a 1/25" shutter (in pal regions) and not 1/50" as all the panasonic cameras I've owned and tried before. The same thing in NTSC regions: shutter off is 1/30" when used at 30p and 1/24" when used at 24p.
So remember to change the shutter if you are going to shoot progressive !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This should be a sticky for this camera

Regards

Gary

Not as much as I would have expected, inefab.
Keep into account that I didn't have enough time for checking the PAP Type 1 option (a stronger noise reduction setting that makes the Hpx 250 even one-stop more sensitive, i.e. F11@2000 lux vs F8@2000 in 50Hz mode) but, beside this, I think that a very small amount of noise cannot be avoided on such a small imager.
You should see what AVC-Intra100 from the stunning 2/3" 3CCD AG-Hpx3100 looks like, pure diamond, smooth as silk... It is a well-known story that size (plus a huge lot of money) matters! :crybaby:

I only put my hands on the 250 yesterday during a dealer presentation in Florence, no further chance to play with it in a short time, sorry.

Ciao Gary :Drogar-Happy(DBG):, the same thing happens with the Hpx500 too.
Hpx3000, Hpx3100 and all the broadcast level camcorders from Panasonic work this way with the shutter selector set to OFF, that is to say: they exploit full-time light gathering for every frame (for every field in interlaced modes), blurring footage with low framerates.

Previous handheld camcorders were arbitrary exceptions to this logical rule, in progressive modes they kept an active shutter set to half-time exposure even if SHUTTER OFF was chosen.
Not a smart thing, was it?

By far, I prefer the Hpx250 shutter OFF behaviour, even if (you're absolutely right) you must be careful when shooting progressive.

Thank you for your posting, I have played a lot with your files, and i am very happy with the result of my experimentation.
I just want to take a look at its night performances and i will decide.
Anybody take night pictures with HPX-250 :D:D ?

I can corroborate the ZIP file problem, the files are reported as being corrupt if I attempt to extract their contents using the ZIP file support built into Windows 7. If the files were created using 7Zip, then it probably uses some extension of the ZIP format that is not universally supported.
