hey everybody ive got some questions now that im getting into the p2 workflow.

question 1.
when shooting 720p it shows that i have the same amount of recording time on the 16gb p2 card as when shooting 1080p. doesnt shooting 720p take up less space?

question 2.
what format and what resolution do most people use when rendering out? If u shoot 720p do you render out as 1280x720? rather than 960x720? and if so what codec do most poeple use? Also when shooting at 1080p.. do most upres out to 1920x1080? or render out at its native res 1440x1080?

question 3.
i connected the hvx to a tv i have (32 inch 16:9 lcd screen 1024x768 res) using the Audio/video cables. the quality was not that good, is there a way to connect the hvx to a screen and get a really sharp picture? would i have to connect it via the hdmi port?

question 4.
if my p2 card is full.. should i reformat it each time to clear the video which is on there? or is there another way to clear the card, for example when transfering the footage to my laptop.. it seems like i can only "copy" and "paste" the folder, i would like to be able to "cut" and "paste" so when i insert the card back into the hvx its empty and i dont have to reformat.

thanx !

1. What frames rates are you using for each? 720/24pNative takes less space than 720/24p over 60.

2. Footage is delivered at 1280x720.

3. There is a Component out cable and port on the HVX200.

4. Utilities for PC and Mac are available to permit formatting when mounted on whatever platform you are using. Which one is it?

720/60p takes up exactly as much space as 1080/60i. Half as much spatial frame size, but twice as much temporal resolution, means it takes the same amount of space.

As David said, 24pN will take less space than any 1080 mode.

im using 25p framerate, im not using 720pn, just 720p and also 1080p, i just noticed that the recording time for both is the same..

i imagine rendered out as bluray or hd-dvd right?

i just insert the p2 in the laptops pcmcia slot and copy the footage to my hdd. i cant delete the footage however from the card. so each time i need to put the card back into the hvx and re-format it.

yeah, i noticed that Barry. i was just wondering why the 720p mode takes as much space as the 1080i over 25p

Because your shooting 720p25 OVER 50p, flick the camera into 720pn 25 and you'll have a whole heap more recording time.
