GH13 Software Stabilizer?

Which software do you use for video stabilization? :-m

I've used deshaker+virtualdub, and also tested Vegas 10 built-in stabilization; but both do weird things with my GH13 videos.

Today I'm testing this one

http://vstab.sourceforge.net/

It wasn't easy to use, since I'm a Windows user, and needed to install some linux related stuff and compile the application. It also only works with AVI MJPEG files.

But results are quite nice, althrough it doesn't remove the RS wobble.

Here is my test (will be available in a few minutes)

It was shot on a monopod @1080p using a GH13. The file was several times recompressed, so that's why IQ is quite low. As you can see, the application works quite well, but RS is still present.

Youtube now can also stabilize a video, but I want to have it stabilized before uploading. Here is a test;

Original

YouTube stabilized

As you can see, it also does weird things.

Any suggestions?
I only want to get rid off monopod shaking and our best-friend, aka Rolling Shutter.

With the software I've found today it seems that I can remove shaking, but RS remains. :Drogar-Mad(DBG):

Coremelt Lock and Load X is great but for FCP. Also iMovie does very well. Both are available to Mac users. I know you are on Windows which may limit your options. You just have to hunt down the equivalent software options for Vegas, google is your friend.

I really find that deshaker works the best... So long as you have a high shutter speed then it can do amazing things. I use it on a lot of my footage just to remove micro jitters.

I want to use a 1/50 or 1/100 (slow mo) shutter only.

Deshaker can give great results... (handheld like a tripod) but it also can do very weird things.

I'm looking fot something less spectacular than deshaker, but without it's weirds artifacts.

What kind of weird things is it doing? Are you playing with the settings at all?

Things like what happens to the background of the youtube stabilization video of the first post.

Any idea of how to avoid that sort of things? I've played a bit with the settings with no luck; my computer is quite slow (p4 2.4ghz) and can't play too much until getting upset quite easy. :)

Specifically, what are you referring to?

If you mean the edge artifacts? It looks like you have the software set to blurred mirror edges. So you get blurred mirrored edges...

You've got these little dots as well, but they are in the "before" shot as well as the "after". Did you shoot interlaced and use a poor deinterlacer?

Well, youtube has almost no options, but it seems that I need to play a little more with deshaker and touch any edge related option

What dots? :-m

The before video it's a GH13 720p @ 50fps MTS file directly uploaded to youtube.

(you're talking about the "hand" video, aren't you?) :-m

Not talking about youtube; I was was referring to your 1st video , it's probably in the way you processed it with stabilization because the mirror blends are only in the right half

When you stabilize footage, you have to fill the black edges with something or zoom in. It looks like you choose a blend mirror edge option

Talking about the 1st video . Looks like "marching ants" all over from a bad deinterlace, and there are aliasing artifacts in both right & left (before & after shots)

It's hard to say whether I am talking about the same thing... but it looks like the background loses detail? If that's what you are talking about then shoot with a higher shutter speed and this will prevent the blurring of the background. Then when deshaker goes to fix the jiitters it will have the detail to work with. You can then add motion blur afterwards if necessary...

The latest version of AVS video editor has built in image stabilization. It works very well for micro jitters and it can be used in combo with zoom stabilization to remove some major judders.

How do you enable the built in youtube stabilization?

Not talking about youtube; I was was referring to your 1st video..

jummm :-m

The first video is a demostration from the web page of the tool. Not made by me.

The second one (the tree) was several times recompressed, and edges are fine for me.

I've made more tests with vStab, and it also does weird things :-m

I thing it can only be used for forward, backward moves and of course with static shots.

2nd test with vStab... as you can see, it fails completely on 3rd and 4th scenes :(

First time = right = no stabiliz.
