Software for 7D Post Production?

I am jumping into 7D world (HVX & EX-1 user).

I am interested in expanding from basic editing to complete post production.

I am editing on a MBP (3GB of ram & 500 GB HD- not sure about the graphics card)
currently FCP 6 . . . so I have COLOR, but have not explored it

What software would you (all) recommend for 7D workflow?

Should I upgrade FCP?

3rd party?

Plug ins?

Freeware?

Also software for sound sync, transcoding, etc.?

must have?

useful extras?

Thanks in Advance . . .

What do you mean by complete post production? If you already have Final Cut Studio, then that should give you everything you need. I don't really see much need to upgrade your current FCP version either.

I personally prefer After Effects to Motion, but depending on how much motion graphics/VFX work you want to do it might not be a necessary upgrade.

PluralEyes is a good sound sync solution, but I wouldn't consider it a necessity. Just use a clap board.

It's hard to really answer your question any further without any specifics to what you will need to do.

Yeah, I see your point . . .

I was thinking about any software that might be specific to the 7D workflow, PluralEyes being a good example of one way to go.

Also any software that those who are more experienced in Color correction and grading might have found necessary or really helpful in making the flow to a finished product (whatever that may mean to each individual out there) more effective and efficient.

I am interested in going deeper into "finish" work.

Hope that helps shake things out a little.

Pluraleyes is very useful IMO, but we deal mainly with multicam edits.
I've also found Magic Bullet Looks very easy to use and tend to choose it over Colour.

I am going to pick up Magic Bullet Looks.

I am curious about transcoding and what people are finding works well for grading. Are FCPer's finding Pro Res to be an effective Codec?

Anyone working in the native codec?

Never work native, H264 is horribly compressed. Look at the same clip side by side once converted to ProRes and you'll see.

FWIW I am going to grab the new CS5, no Im not going to move away from FCP for editing. I just want that new after effects and photoshop. Also my editing studio will be a for hire, so I want to provide all options.

For color, Ive added hardware - Euphonix MC color. This also work with Red's new release Red Cine-X.

Thank you guys. . . I figured I would be working in ProRes . . .

Is it possible (yet) to record to Nano Flash or get RAW files out of the camera?
