So where's Canon's answer to Sony and Panasonic?

Seriously, where's their answer to the F3/FS100/AF100? I mean they've gotta have S-O-M-E-T-H-I-N-G up their sleeve....right?

As dcloud said, give 'em a year or two. They're always astonishingly late. The AF100 is only six months old, the F3 is only four months old, and the FS100 is a newborn. Canon usually follows about 18 months to 3 years behind everyone else.

I'm enjoying shooting some stuff on my 7D and the rest on my xf305. Given how many T3i/T2i,7D's and 5Ds they sell for filmmaking, they probably feel they have enough for now, and they can't produce enough xf100s, for good reason, as it's a wonderful camera (and also due to the earthquake, apparently). But Barry's right, the xf300 was about two years late to the market.

You can bet that Canon has something in development. As a company (talking about the pro video division), they've never been interested in being first to the market with anything - to quote a Canon rep I met at DVexpo West several years ago - they're "interest is in doing it right and doing it best." Sure the XF300 & XF100 series cameras were late additions to the solid-state small-sensor camcorder game, but the quality of those cams sent them straight to the top of their fields. Now they're all over the broadcast market.

Canon will have something out. It may not be soon, but it will be very good. Use the tools you have available to you now if you can't wait, they're are plenty of fantastic options. No amount of pleading will make anything come faster from Canon.
