Why would you shoot with D750 1080 for film when you can shoot 4k with the GH4 or the sony A7s. Anyone who is serious about film making should be shooting 4k now that there are several options at very affordable prices.
Not everybody needs 4K
No one, in fact, needs 4K.
4K is invisible at comfortable viewing distances. You have to sit closer than 30 degrees for it to be visible, and closer than the THX-recommended 36 degrees for the difference to be more than subtle. In exchange, you get one quarter the light sensitivity and dynamic range. Or you might have been able to get global shutter. Also this invisible benefit will double your media costs, raise the minimum requirements of your editing hardware, and slow your rendering times. It will make everything more complicated.

Anyone - ANYONE - doing smaller-client broadcast or web work that uses a lot of green screen or effects, with a small-shop/small or no crew workflow who tries not to rent - will instantly benefit from 4K from a GH4 or NX1.
The footage I'm seeing from the NX1, properly lit and downsampled to 1080 - the good stuff looks almost new ballgame to me. For well under $2k, you can have, in-house, the resolution to take effects to the next level, next-gen slowmo (for DSLR shooting) which is way useful for fashion/beauty, industrial, music videos, and corporate b-roll. Not to mention some freedom to reframe (especially for your web clients).
To say "I don't personally need 4K" is one thing... to say "nobody needs 4K" suggests you've had, perhaps, a head injury so severe you don't recall it happening. Or you believe every business out here does things exactly like you do.

Why would I shoot with a D750 over a GH4? Uh... LOW LIGHT for one, also for the full-frame field of view and ease of shallow depth of field. But mainly because I really dislike the native look of the GH4 and I really like the native look of the D750 - I don't want to HAVE TO spend a ton of time grading each and every shot. Different cameras have different looks and one size does NOT fit all.
Not a single client cared about 4k when i mentioned it. And most dont know wth it is. 4k has some way to go before its mainstream. People are aware of it and we as photographers know about it but its far from being mainstream. Most are enjoying their 1080p screens. Many buying big screens just recently as prices are so low. Sure 4k is great abd well get there. Itll be at least a year before 4k gets mainstream in weddings. Itll get there though. Not yet though. It also depends which country were talking about. Prices will be cheapest in the us for scteens so people will adopt that quicker. But not overseas.
For me though d750 over the gh4 for its stills capability low light performance and dynamic range.
You said no dave dugdale etc... He kind of explained in his last video how everyone at nab this year walking around has gone from canon 5d's to GH4 and Sony a7s cameras. Those are the cameras people are talking about for video, and since you dont need auto focus for video, if you want the shallow depth of field and low light performance you can buy a cheaper 1.4 or voigtlander .95 lens for a price a full frame camera couldnt offer those features.
I mix my GH4 with my coworkers canon 6d for 2 camera shoots a lot and dont think 4k is that much sharper like people think it is. The colors actually match pretty well and its hard to even tell between the 2 cameras but the gh4 is just easier to shoot with.
I am getting into photography and decided to go with the Nikon D750 with the tamron 24-70 2.8. This way i have my gh4 for video and my d750 for photography and can work as a b-cam for video.
I will be doing a ton of tests comparing the GH4 to my D750 over the next 2 weeks and i'm hoping the d750 matches well and gets that bokeh the GH4 struggles to find.
It depends on your market. Many people are shooting and asking for 4K in NYC and Los Angeles.
